Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

*****The owner has contacted me and she will be checking us out here on DK!  More info to follow***As many of you know we have talked for YEARS about having a DK meet up where we could all bring our doodles.  It just has never happened and although some of us are meeting this year to go on a Doodle Lovers Cruise - the doods are not welcome - LOL.

WELL DO I HAVE SOME EXCITING NEWS but I need your feedback NOW.  How many people would SERIOUSLY (like in use your vacation, spend the money, etc) be open to taking your dogs to a Camp where they are off leash (unless taking part is some special training classes) to hike, do yoga, swim, canoe, sleep in your cabin with you?

That is right - I have found the perfect place and have sent them a message asking if they would accomodate a special "group" - US!!!!   We would need 50 people at that is the max per camp session (4 days).  I don't know the full cost per person yet but am finding out.  If we couldn't get 50 people perhaps we could just all sign up for a session together, knowing that other - non doodle dogs would be there too.

I NEED YOUR FEEDBACK NOW - as I have contacted the owners.  Once I hear back from you - I'll share the website so that you can all take a look

From their website

Take your dog on a 4-day weekend retreat to the beautiful relaxing countryside. Enjoy the company of other dogs and dog lovers, immerse yourselves in nature, celebrate the full free expression of your dog's dogness, and learn to think like a dog. You and your pooch will love it!

Each camp session offers dogs and their people a 4-day weekend retreat organized to be fun, satisfying, relaxing, and educational. The schedule is planned to keep the dogs active and participatory. Presentations and workshops teach campers how to take the best care of their dog. Sports and athletic activities led by experts engage the dogs and help campers understand how to maximize their dog's abilities. Participation in activities is optional, and some campers may choose to simply relax by the lake with their dogs.

This would be a great place to go.  October is open.  If you wanted any of the summer months you would have to start booking way early.

This looks great. Can get up to 8 couples in a house. Hicks, how many dogs would that be!!!! Doodle romp all week long 24/7 .

Doodle romp on the BEACH 24/7...Think of how much fun this would be if we  occupied a number of houses on this beach..three houses with 8 couples in each house and 1-2 dogs with each couple...it's mind boggling.

I would ssoooo love to do this.  Hendersonville is such a beautiful area.  We went to Lake Lure last year and visited Hendersonville ..such a pretty town with lots of cool shops too!!

The price on the website wasn't so bad if you go 3-4 to a cabin...

My thoughts. How utterly fun to try to do this!  Thanks for even proposing it.  I know that there could never be tons of participants, but 50 - perhaps so.

1. My dh and I would so love to try something like this IF we can afford it. It seems a bit pricey to me for two people - two dogs. Plus the cost of traveling across the country, although we really want to take an RV cross-country trip.

2. I e-mailed and asked about RV accommodations  and fees if allow RVs - with or without meals.

3. They do not seem to have a double occupancy where the double is a couple - odd to me.

4. There is NO WAY IN @# I would unleash my dogs continuously.  Just not gonna happen. The Malibu romp is coming up. It is situated in an oak grove in the Mountains above Malibu - my guys will not be joining the great unleashed pack of dogs - it is awesome to watch them thunder through the tables etc.  but not for me to just let mine go.   Plus Clancy can slip any flat collar known to man (probably from his dog catcher days) so he would be wearing a martingale - I do have a cloth one that might be acceptable to them.  I do not do clicker, I do not do treats, but it would be fun to train them in some of their stuff - of course that means that I would need to pre-train them so they wouldn't embarrass me (LOL)

5. I don't know if my dogs would enjoy any participatory sessions, but I am sure I would love to meet fellow dkers.

6. Perhaps regional plans would be more realistic.

7.  If this is something my dh and I could swing we would really enjoy it.

Sounds like great fun, but too far for us.

This sounds like fun but I'm afraid it would be Tara's idea of hell. :(

I personally love the idea...it could be fun for so many of you, however, my 12 pound baby would not to do well with free run and play with big dogs, if he didn't get trampled in the mix, he would be scared anyway and probably act out.

Jack prefers five star hotels and being around small to med dogs so I will once again have to live vicariously through you all.

Oh wow Jane!  I would do it in a heart beat if I wasn't in California!  Looks like a perfect place for Doodles!!!

that sounds so exciting, but unfortunately I don't think I could handle having both doodles in the car to drive all the way from WA to NC.  :)  I think that is a great idea though and look forward to hearing all about it if you guys end up going.

So we should take Adinas advice and meet near her!

I am in for sure......We looked into it for last May and it was going to be $800 ish for four days...... Cheaper than me going on a vacation without the doods and paying for a babysitter though.  I am in FOR SURE :)
