Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Somebody either talk me into or out of this, please! Toby is four, and pretty near perfect - in our eyes, anyway. For some reason I just have this intense desire for another doodle!
If you're talking me into it, please direct me to someone in Southern Ontario with doodle pups.... ha, ha.

I'm looking forward to seeing what replies you get, Sandy!
I would really like to get the pros and cons on this too! I'm trying to imagine the differences between having two instead of just one. Trix is my first dog and isn't even 2 years old yet, so I'm pretty clueless and don't intend on getting a second until I know what to expect.
Aside from expenses and extra grooming, two dogs are really easier in some ways than one. They do exercise themselves more when in the yard, at least mine do. They are no more trouble to feed or pick up after really. I feel better when leaving them home that they have each other for company although I think it's more each others presence than active communication. I think dogs do tie you down but two do not tie you down more than one. I like when they work together, but sadly that's usually in something I am not fond of, like hunting small critters.
I agree with F. Even with having a chihuahua and a doodle, they really love each other and get along so well. Both are very upset when the other is not around and I think enjoy each other's company. I also don't think 2 are much harder than 1...just more of the expense.
Wow Sandy, those are not words that I ever thought I would hear come from your mouth. I'm going to be very honest and admit that when I think of someone that struggled with having a puppy, you are the first person that comes to mind for me, so I am going to encourage you to go back and read some of your beginning posts from when Toby was a puppy. If I recall, those puppy days for you were pretty pretty intense on occasion. Now that he is four I'm sure the memory of those have faded somewhat, maybe a refresher course is in order here. I'd also encourage you to talk with Jarka (Monty and Auggie) as she is doing the new puppy thing right now and is just about ready to pull her hair out. Than if you still have puppy fever, then go for it! I already have two so I'm not one to tell you not to ... But I'll reserve the right to say I told you so on occasion. LOL :o)
Ha, ha - you are so right! I am hoping (thinking?) that Toby was not necessarily a typical puppy. My son is now engaged to a vet tech. who trains dogs for work with Autistic children, so at least I would have back up! I must have done something right though, because seriously, Toby is great. :)
LOL, I'm being used as a warning. That's a good thing. I don't know your story with Toby, but perhaps you will be lucky enough having the easy puppy as a second one. It was not my case, though.

It does get better, though. Good luck! :-)
Take a gander through my early postings - he was AWFUL. The way I see it, a new one could not possibly be worse. No way. He bit me like a piranha for 6 whole months. Just brutal. And peed in the house for 6 months. I hope your life gets easier in a hurry.
LOL, that IS a way to think about it: it can't be possibly worse.
And yes, my life got much better. It's amazing how much difference one month does. And it will only get better (so I keep telling myself).
Adopting might be a way to go as well. There are never adoptable doodles in Colorado, otherwise I would have considered that route as well.
I'll be curious to see what you decide. :-)
There have been lots of posts lately from people looking to rehome adult doodles. Why not consider one of them?
I'm in Canada. Have you seen postings in Canada?
I had the itch too...he arrives tomorrow :)
my 3 year old doodle is so bored unless he's around other dogs or new people...hoping he'll be in heaven with the puppy... I'll let you know how it goes after a few days...
