Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
When I first took Charley to the vet at 9 weeks and told them that he is an Aussidoodle, the lady said "why in the world would they cross those two breeds?" She then proceeded to say it's just another mutt. Which I guess is true....... I've had a few others look at me crazy when I told them Charley's breed. And then today when I took him to the vet to get neutered the visiting vet said the same thing the other vet said, why in the world would they cross those two breeds? She then proceeded to call him a mutt also.
I know this is mainly a Labradoodle/Goldendoodle forum, but I was just curious if you guys get the same reactions about your breeds and does it make you feel bad? I'm sure your breed has been around longer than the Aussiedoodle so it may not have the same impact. It just feels like the people are upset that I didn't adopt my dog from the pound and instead bought one. But my thought process when I got Charley was that I wanted to know where my dog came from and know who his parents were and the testings done in "hopes" to ensure a healthier dog. Obviously there are no guarantees but that was my hope.

I'd say it's time to look for a new vet. I've only had one or two people over the years be rude over the mix. Never at our vet though. They all love it when Gus or Lilly come in.
I have two Labradoodles, and I think people are pretty used to them. I really don't get many people saying things like that...especially not my Vet. I really wouldn't let it make me "feel bad" if they did.
I agree - you should look for another vet.
I thought that these type of comments were a thing of the past.
BTW- we love all dogs on this forum.
I also have an aussiedoodle, and people constantly ask me what he is. I usually say that he's an "australian shepherd poodle mix". I don't get any bad attitude when I tell them that.
This is exactly what we do! Aussiedoodle seems to really throw people, but when we say it like this we get a completely different reaction.
Yep, and I just claim it with pride! Best mutt I have ever had, and I have had several. Don't let it bother you. My next "mutt" is going to be an Aussiedoodle. Whatever you like is what you are willing to go looking for and put out the money for. And for me, that is an Aussiedoodle.
Luckily no one has ever made a snide remark about my dooodles, and good thing. They are like my kids so I would BLOW UP ON THEM!!! I wanted a goldendoodle for a reason, and Magnet is the best thing that ever happened to me. I am glad I stuck with the goldendoodle, the Giant Schnauzer was 2nd on my list. My very first vet visit with Magnet, she was 8 wks old. My vet looked at her with a genuine smile, loved on her, and said out loud "whomever decided to breed those to breeds of dogs together was a genius as far as I'm concerned, they tend to be much healthier too". That made me confident, and I left feeling good. Everyone that has met my doodles (i have 2) just loves them. All doodles are special. My family used to raise Australian Shepherds for many yrs, so I know their demeanor well. I can just imagine they are just as great as any other doodle out there. Phewy on what ppl think, but I promise I feel sorry for the first one to make a remark about it to me...lol
Oh yeah, I took my Australian labradoodle to an obedience class and they asked me the breed. I told them ALD and they put down lab mix. Then later they told me that there was no lab in that dog. True, but they are the ones that had to put down something so called him a lab mix.
When I took Tara in for her first vet check at 8 weeks the receptionist asked me her breed and I said "Australian Labradoodle". She said "Oh, a mixed breed" and I patiently repeated "Australian Labradoodle" and asked if she needed help spelling it. I had to send a copy of the vet's report to Tara's breeder and I wasn't about to send one to her with "mixed breed" on it, even if Tara it one! LOL! ( I guess she realized I meant it because when she handed me the report at the end of the appointment it stated Australian Labradoodle under the breed section! Sometimes we have to train people too!
We ran into all types of opinionated people when she was younger, 3 years ago. I just let all their comments roll right off because there was no way they could diminish the joy that Tara brought into my life! People will always be people. Some are kind and tactful and others seem to want to suck the joy out of everything! I try not to let other people's opinions be the determining factor for my happiness. Just enjoy your baby and forget them! :)
You spelled it?? You are too funny!!!!!
Really well said Ricki!
I've had a few comments like that, and they startled me. I wouldn't dream of making unkind remarks about somebody else's choice in "mutts," and it amazes me that people seem to be okay about doing this. It seems to me to be in the same category as having a stranger criticize your choice in shoes or spouse.
