Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
When I first took Charley to the vet at 9 weeks and told them that he is an Aussidoodle, the lady said "why in the world would they cross those two breeds?" She then proceeded to say it's just another mutt. Which I guess is true....... I've had a few others look at me crazy when I told them Charley's breed. And then today when I took him to the vet to get neutered the visiting vet said the same thing the other vet said, why in the world would they cross those two breeds? She then proceeded to call him a mutt also.
I know this is mainly a Labradoodle/Goldendoodle forum, but I was just curious if you guys get the same reactions about your breeds and does it make you feel bad? I'm sure your breed has been around longer than the Aussiedoodle so it may not have the same impact. It just feels like the people are upset that I didn't adopt my dog from the pound and instead bought one. But my thought process when I got Charley was that I wanted to know where my dog came from and know who his parents were and the testings done in "hopes" to ensure a healthier dog. Obviously there are no guarantees but that was my hope.

I married a mutt.
You've made me laugh twice in a row, Ricki.
Thanks for bringing a smile to my face :o)
My pleasure and it's so much better than the alternative! :)
Amen.
LOL -- No, he's a designer person.
LOL! Pat, he's going to LOVE that!!!
That's true Sue!!
Ugh, yes! My fiance and I talked about what kind of dog we were going to get for about 3 years before we were finally comfortable with our decision. We'd both had adult rescue dogs, and adult breeder dogs in our past, but for our first dog as a new mini family, we decided we wanted to raise a puppy -- you know, share our lives with a dog from its first days as an infant to its last days as a senior. We'd already settled on a goldendoodle (for a billion obvious reasons!) so it looked like our only choice was to work with a breeder. We decided that once we'd learned how to raise a puppy, we'd dive into the world of fostering. After I announced our decision and our thought process on my personal blog, I got a super mean email from someone I knew personally, saying that getting a 'designer puppy' was equivalent to killing other dogs in need. I was devastated. People can be so judgmental!
I just say mutt. Most times, it is easier. In reality, it is what they are and a mutt is what I wanted in the first place
Awwww... don't let it get you down. A lot of people used to think FInney was a golden doodle. Even after I explained he was a labradoodle. So as long as there's a "doodle" at the end of the question, I just nod my head :)
Never had that reaction and I think it is rude. Labradoodle/Goldendoodles are not mutts. And isn't just about every breed a mixture of some other breeds at one time? I hope you didn't let them upset you because what you have is a very special dog. And, frankly, I don't think that vet service should have the privilege of having Charley as a client because Charley is to special. Maybe you might want to consider changing vets.
I have never had anyone make comments like that when asking about Hurley. I get the amazed look because he is so gentle, beautiful and doesn't shed…. Yup. In case you have not guessed it I am prejudice when it comes to doodles. Hurley is like our child. Actually he is another child to us. Both of our kids left the nest log ago and have families of their own.
