Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
When I first took Charley to the vet at 9 weeks and told them that he is an Aussidoodle, the lady said "why in the world would they cross those two breeds?" She then proceeded to say it's just another mutt. Which I guess is true....... I've had a few others look at me crazy when I told them Charley's breed. And then today when I took him to the vet to get neutered the visiting vet said the same thing the other vet said, why in the world would they cross those two breeds? She then proceeded to call him a mutt also.
I know this is mainly a Labradoodle/Goldendoodle forum, but I was just curious if you guys get the same reactions about your breeds and does it make you feel bad? I'm sure your breed has been around longer than the Aussiedoodle so it may not have the same impact. It just feels like the people are upset that I didn't adopt my dog from the pound and instead bought one. But my thought process when I got Charley was that I wanted to know where my dog came from and know who his parents were and the testings done in "hopes" to ensure a healthier dog. Obviously there are no guarantees but that was my hope.

LOL! Sue I love #2!! And I don't remember hearing it from you before!! It's good!
Perfect Sue!
What amuses me is the number of people who have given me the Dood-Tude and have then fallen hopelessly in love with Finn after he snuggles up or gives them that "soul scan" look. Heh heh!
Sue, hope I can remember #2 LOL
yes I agree. I wanted smart...non-shedding...not too big...not too little..good with the family....easy to train.....so AssieDoodle was the best choice for me. and yes, people have given me grief about Scout and Dolly being "just mutts". But they will have to wait in line with the other people waiting for me to give a hoot. Did I ask their opinion? nope. Do I want their opinion. Nope. Do I care what they think? nope. sign me Dolly and Scout's mom
When anyone asks me if Wally is "one of those designer dogs," I respond by saying: "Yes, you must check out his new show on Home & Garden TV!" Mostly, though, people ask me if he's part Afghan! It doesn't surprise me, anymore. Now, with the addition of our puppy, Charlotte, the current question is whether or not Wally is Charlotte's father. People are just interested in our beautiful dogs, and sometimes they simply are trying to make conversation. If they say something dumb, I just turn around and walk away.
i posted on facebook asking if any of my friends had goldendoodles and how they liked them..and my "friend" proceeded to comment.. "i dont know why all these people spend soo much money on these designer dogs..that is really just a mutt..when there are soo many good dogs stuck in shelters".. i got SOOO offended.. first of all i am not at all against adopting a dog from a shelter..the thing is..i have very bad allergies to many dogs and cant just go pick out any dog from a shelter.. second off my husband and i just got married and we wanted a puppy..not a 5 year old dog..this would be our first dog together and i wanted to have him from as soon as he could be sold..so we could grow together.. and again i am not and never would put down the dogs in the shelters..EVER...its just its not that easy for me to go an pick any dog there.. also i didnt get a goldendoodle because its a "designer dog" i got a goldendoodle because my family has 2 poodle whom i adore...and i always LOVED golden retrievers but due to my allergies could never have one...so i got a goldendoodle because i read up on them and they seemed like amazing dogs...so i think its really offensive to put us doodle lovers down and call our dogs mutts...
Chelsea, many people are appalled at the amount of money the doodles cost but I can tell you that my last two dogs were shelter dogs and because of all the genetic health issues they both had (hip dysplasia, luxating patellas, etc) I put MUCH more money into those dogs then what I paid for Tara. So what's the difference in the end?
I refuse to be put into the position of justifying my decisions whether it be to friends or strangers. Feel comfortable in knowing that you made the right decision for you. I love what Sue said earlier:
1. What you do is none of their business
2. What they think of what you do is none of YOUR business!!!
Love it!
None of us need to justify our choice in dogs. We all have good logical loving reasons for our choice and no matter what anyone else has to say or thinks we should get or not get it is our choice and not theirs. I, also, have terrible allergies and wanted a dog that could eventually be a service dog for my husband and for volunteer work. Sometimes I think the deogatory comments are out of envy that we have such wonderful doodles for our companion.
Your comments don't seem strange to me, Ricki. But that could be because I am a bit out of sorts today. The AC has been out since last night. It is 95 degrees in the house. That is probably hotter than it is outside. The repair man is working on it now so hopefully shortly we will have AC again.
In Henderson, NV with NO A/C??? OMD! Glad the repair man is there and hope he finishes quickly so you can get back to air conditioned comfort!!! How does Hurley do in that much heat?
