Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Charlie my mini golden doodle is 16 pounds at 6 months. My breeder had estimated she will be around 23 pounds fully grown. She has been around the same weight for the last month. Will she continue to have some growth in size & at what age do they stop growing? I am a newbie dog owner so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

The smaller the dog the quicker they mature.  Ned stopped growing by 8 months.

Like the other reply said, smaller dogs mature quicker than others.  I would also point out that it can be difficult to predict the size of mini goldendoodles, as there are some 'mini' doods who end up 40-50 lbs!  It greatly depends on what generation doodle they are, and how much mini poodle to golden they have in them.  Yours does sound mini, though :)

The best predictor of adult weight is apparently to double the weight at 16 weeks and add up to 10 lbs.  If your puppy is 16 lbs at 6 months, I would say 23 at maturity might not be far off.  Small dogs grow fastest up to 3 months, and large dogs grow quite fast up to 5 months, after which point growth slows down steadily, though it also depends on diet whether there are growth spurts or steady growth.

You should join the Mini and Medium Doodle group, there is a wealth of info there on size. They would know best for sure.

Guinness (my mini Labradoodle) stopped growing around 9 months.  He's now three and a half and weighs 21 pounds.  Your breeder's estimate sounds about right to me.

Guinness is only 21 pounds?  Why did I think he was as big as Ned (27 pounds)?  No wonder Murph can 'squash' him when they do the bed thing.

My F1b mini goldendoodle was 24 pounds at 6 months and is 25 pounds at 14 months.  She has not grown since 6 months...just filled in a bit.

Skeletal growth is usually complete by 6-8 months in minis, but they continue to gain muscle and bone mass, so their overall size may not change much but their weight will go up.

With mixed breeds, the predicted adult size is pretty much a guesstimate.

At 6 months, my Peri was 16 pounds also.  She is 3 and has filled out and hovers anywhere from 24-26 pounds.  She is a wonderful size ;)

Duncan is about 30 pounds now at 3 years old. His height didn't change much from when he was about a year old but he was about 23 lbs at a year so he filled out a bit.

My Daphne is an F1b mini and she weighs 15.3 lbs at 6 months. My vet said that she may be fully grown now. Like Karen said, their skeletal growth is done sooner than the larger ones. At any rate he thought she would not be over 20 lbs which is what the breeder said her previous litter from the same parents were.

I have two "mini" goldendoodles.  Maggie is 20 pounds while KoKo is a hefty 42 pounds.  Maggie never finishes her food and KoKo is waiting and watching for her chance to attack the Maggie's abandoned food bowl.

How did Charlie fill out over the past few months? Do you know how much Charlie's folks weighed?
