The Late Summer Garden

Sometimes I compare my life to a flower. And in that analogy I'm at the almost ready to drop my petals stage and the late summer garden is not far behind. Lots of things have bloomed and are done.This hydrangea is done but some other types are going strong:

Some are reblooming like this Abelia and Spirea.

Others are still blooming like this Vitex Agnus Castus:

The phlox carries on:

The Rudbeckia too:

And the Goldenrod, look at all the insects, and Anemones are starting:

Everyone's pictures are beautiful and much appreciated.  Since I usually "Doodle" late at night, I have not pictures.  Not too much is picturesque in my garden right now.  The milkweed continues strong and I saw a Moarch butterfly feeding on it today. The Walker's low catmint is still thriving, but the rest of my garden is mostly hibernating from the heat or burnt to a crisp.  Only one rudbeckia made it through and usually they can stand up to the heat.  Roses are trying to make buds again for bloom about the end of September.  I cut them back quite a bit after the last July bloom to give them a rest through the heat.  We were so hot in July that they really need it.

 

In the analogy of the life of the flower, I hope that I am a rose as I surely have no flower petals left.  I am hoping for a long time as a ripening rose hip, not clipped off too soon to make more flowers, but left on at the end of the season for its own form and charm.

Oh Maryann, I love this analogy!   This really made me smile this morning.  I feel exactly the same as you do and  I hope that I too am a rose!

Pistachio as F., calls the buds on the Moonflowers.  Blooming tonight.  Tonight should be the grand finale as there as so many ready to go

It's sad to see the season go but I am ready. The weather we've had for almost a week now has been special. I love the cool night with no heat or AC needed.

Looks great, F!  Is another name for anemones, windflower?  We have these I think.  A big patch of them, they were looking good until a heavy rain knocked them over.

Yes they are called that. I have white and pink and I love that they bloom when little else does.
