What a project!

100 YEAR OLD COMPTON OAK MOVE SUCCESSFUL IN LEAGUE CITY, TEXAS

The Ghirardi Compton Oak Tree has been a piece of League City, Texas's

history for over 100 years. The tree stands 56 feet tall, has a canopy that

is over 100 feet wide, and is 135 inches around. It weighs an incredible

518,000 pounds. A county road widening project put the future of the

Ghirardi Oak in jeopardy. The city decided to move the majestic oak. The

project took just under a month to complete.

What a project! Gorgeous tree. I was impressed that they were watering the feeder roots as they went along. I have a small hemlock tree in front of my porch that had to be yanked when some repair work was done. It was left lying in my side yard where I covered the roots with old towels And sheets I kept damp. The contractors plopped it back where it had been and it's fine to this day : )

Thanks for sharing this.    It's that time of year when my eyes are drawn to the majestic beauty of the trees around us.  What a magnificent specimen this is!!!!   So wonderful people came together to save it.

That's amazing!

Incredible engineering feat and gorgeous tree.  Thanks for sharing.
