Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Saturday I'm supposed to go pick out my "Goldendoodle" puppy from two males in the litter. Now I'm having doubts if I'm doing the right thing and have chosen well. Is this normal? I've never visited any breeders so have nothing to compare these puppies with. So a friend and I have made an appointment to visit another breeder tomorrow (Friday). At least I will have something to compare with then. And now another quandry. Why do I do this to myself (keep reading)? I keep searching ads and have found a "Labradoodle" puppy I simply adore! And he is still available. No time to see him before Sat. when I pick my puppy up. In the back of my mind I keep thinking I don't have to take one of the two puppies I'm supposed to choose from if I don't like them for some reason. Am I just being a fickle female? I want to KNOW when I see my puppy that it's right. Does that make sense? And I keep telling myself I do NOT need two dogs. haha I think I'm just nervous and venting here. Didn't know if anyone went through this too.

I feel kinda bad now having even brought this subject up. I should be 100% committed but when I have had to wait almost 8 weeks I can't help but look at others; then the "what if's" start. I'm sure our puppies will be the best ones for us. Thanks for your post - let us know how it goes this Saturday!
Do not feel bad, Patti! Many of us were anxious about choosing our pups. You will be fine when your little fuzz ball is in your arms.
You'll do great, don't worry, Nicky. The breeder will help you choose.
Patti, I also don't see a reason to go see a different breeder's puppies. What do you want to compare? Just make the leap and go pick up your puppy on Saturday. Your breeder should let you know the temperaments of the puppies and guide you in your decision.
With both of my boys, I did have a buyer's remorse when I brought them home. I was wondering whether I picked the "wrong" puppy. I think it's natural to have doubts AFTER you have your puppy. By the way, both of them are keepers and I would not have it any other way. Please, don't spoil your excitement for the new puppy by seeing other puppies. Be excited for this little guy that you have been waiting for. He deserves it. Ask the breeder about temperament and pick based on that. Good luck.
Nicky, I am so excited for you. It is nerve wracking! But I hope you get the best fit for you and Riley. I was just thinking of you today.
Patti, I think if you picked a great breeder who breeds for temperament, you cannot go wrong. I picked both my dogs by a picture on the Internet and met them for the first time the day I arrived to pick them up. I would not trade my dogs for any other dogs on the planet.
Agreed...I had the same experience with meeting them on the day I picked them up. I think it's about trusting your breeder and, above all, trusting yourself. And, Patti, I do think it's time you stop "shopping around" for another pup. I don't know why, but I keep thinking about wedding dress shopping...when you find the one, STOP LOOKING! lol
Good luck and you'll know what feels right when you see your pup on Saturday.
Me too, the breeder picked them for me, I couldn't be happier :) Good Luck!
Patti, Quincy was not the dog I wanted, the one I wanted was a bigger male in a caramel color, I am thankful everyday that I got the doodle I did. I am totally nuts about this dog and I'm happy that I didn't get what I wanted. :>)
Trixie was the last puppy in her litter that was not spoken for...
I met her the day I got her. She is simply the Best!
I have never regretted any of my Puppies... I met several on the day I got them...well the devil dog sometimes I did wonder what I was thinking...LOL...but she too grew into a Wonderful Dog
We went to see the red puppy. We purchased the apricot male who just charmed the sox off us. I really think one pup will appeal to you for some reason - our reason was friendly personality, lack of timidness around our other dogs, and, most of all, trying to get all four paws in the water bucket at the same time..... :0}
I think it is just nerves, afraid of the unknown, etc. etc. We all go thru it to some extend when pick a puppy. My biggest thing was getting #2 dog, I knew I wanted one because I always had a 2 dog household. But when I went to meet #2 doodle all those doubts just flew out the window and we immediately fell in love with each other :)
