Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
This little 5 month old doodle was adopted by Jacquie's Mom only a couple of weeks ago. He went in for his vaccines and is having a life threatening reaction to the Lepto. He has some time predisposed genetic thing (how scientific of me) to the Lepto. Finn really needs our thoughts and prayers. He has to be one of the 30% that survive this!!!!
Finn's Story
Finn is a 5 month old Australian Labradoodle puppy surrendered to Doodle Rescue Collective in early September.Finn was surrendered to DRC when his original owner was no longer able to care for him due to post traumatic stress. She admitted that Finn had been an "impulse purchase" in the wake of tragedy and later realized she was not emotionally, psychologically or physically prepared to take on a rambunctious doodle puppy with all that she was going through in the aftermath of her devastating loss.
Thankfully, Finn's owner was directed to DRC by our friends Marie Shelto & Bocker the Labradoodle. (Thank you Marie & Bocker!)
Having just lost their beloved pup to cancer 6 months ago, and both being retired and semi-retired, my Mom and Sam had literally just officially signed up to volunteer for DRC. In fact they made a trek to a Rhode Island shelter to pull a doodle on our behalf two weeks earlier.

GREAT NEWS! FINN IS IMPROVING AND FEELING MUCH BETTER! -- Finn's red cell count has steadily increased over the last week or so and his energy level has increased dramatically....Mom says he's back to being the playful, energetic puppy he was prior to becoming sick. Finn is still on prednisolone, but the weaning begins next week. His wonderful new vet at the specialists is his champion! She has 2 doodles of her own and has seen this exact scenario with the Lepto vaccine play out many times before ....She is highly optimistic that Finn is going to recover from his ordeal.......Keeping our fingers crossed....: )

How horrible. I hope that he gets through this.
Finn and his mom are in my thoughts and prayers! You hang in there little buddy!
Praying for little Finn! Hang tight sweet boy!
Oh my God - please help this little puppy!!! This is beyond tragic, and we are saying our prayers. Rooney's breeder sent him home with big red letters on his vet papers - NO LEPTO. I've read horrid things about this vaccine - bad reactions, that it only is good for 6 months, that only high risk dogs should get the vaccine. I'm only asking for the rest of us but why was this vaccine given?
So very sorry. This is just not fair. Prayers and paws crossed for this little guy.
oh no! that is horrible! prayers, positive thoughts, and hugs coming your way.
My Oliver survived this..........he has been in remission for over a year. It took 9 months of meds to get his blood levels back to normal. No cause was ever found..........he was diagnosed 2 months after his vaccinations at the age of 7 months. My local vet was in contact with Michigan State University's Vet Clinic and worked closely with them on a drug protocal. He was slowly improving and took a dive..........so we took him to East Lansing to MSU and they did 2 days of testing and workups and everything they could think of .... finally just a simple adjustment in his meds put him back on the road to recovery. A long expensive road but he was worth it. He was on Prednesone 20 mg and Doxycycline 100 mg to start and then MSU took him off the Doxy and put him on Imuran/azaThioprine 50 mg........When his blood levels took a drive he was 3 months into this regime........ended up upping the Imuran and it worked out fine. This all started with an emergency vet visit on January 2nd, started tapering off the Pred in June and then off the Imuran in October --- no problems since but I check his gums and ears all the time to make sure they are pink! Prayers and hugs from Oliver...
All prayers going Finn's way. Best thoughts going out to Jacquie's mom.
Sending more prayers your way for Finn to have a quick and complete recovery. I hope to see your friends posting new photos of Finn after his recovery is complete, so we can see him grow and prosper. Best wishes.
Oh, I am so sorry to hear this. I can only imagine how devastated Jacque and her mom are. All the Havers - both naked and hairy are sending out prayers.
