HI there, what can I expect when I go to the airport to pick up our puppy? Any and all suggestions are welcome. We are NEW pet owners, super excited but nervous as well. Is it best to take him out of crate and carry him to the car? Is it best to let him sit on our lap in the car?? Seriously, any and all advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Congrats on your new puppy! I'm also getting a red puppy! Picking up a pup from the airport would make me nervous, I'd need to physically get them myself!

I must admit though, I'm confused. You posted a discussion yesterday asking about a breeder, and now today you are picking up a pup from the airport, which looks a lot larger than an 8 week old puppy judging from your profile picture. Usually, these things don't happen that fast, I myself have waited over a year for a specific litter!

Just curious, as those two discussions don't seem to add up. I've been through the not reputable breeder route and now have a fabulous one, so I'm overly cautious and always want to look out for anyone!

Congratulations on your new Doodle!  We picked our Doodle up from the airport and everything went just fine.  When they brought the crate to us I immediately opened it up and we connected with our eyes and it was all over!   Instant love for the three of us.  She rode home on my lap since I was not the driver,  She had a blanket and a stuffed animal with her in the crate so that stayed with us and she did just great.  The minute we got home (20 min. ride) we took her outside and she peed and started playing on the grass.  It was a very easy transition with no problems what so ever.  Good luck with getting your baby and have lots of fun with him.  They are the best dogs ever:)

Everyone has posted great tips about picking up your puppy from the airport but I am also concerned that the picture you posted is not that of an 8 week old puppy.  If you go through lots of puppy pictures here you will see that their coats are not that advanced at such a young age.

I had the same thought--go to page 1 to  see my pictures of pups that age.

I saw Lily Grace at 3 and then at 7 weeks old so I know this is Lily Grace.  She was nine weeks old the day this was taken.  I left her at the breeders for additional training.  They must have been feeding her vitamins.  She got biggg.  It is possible for a dog pup to look bigger than actually relates to the age.  I think my first job is to get her used to a brush and scissors.  BTW I am picking her up on Saturday and she is finally coming home. She will be 10 weeks on Saturday.  Yea!

and boy is she cute!! And that looks about right for 8 or 9 weeks to me. Congrats!!

Thanks, I have been waiting so very long for her. Can't wait!

Sue, I think I'm as excited as you for Lily to come home.  She is getting big....and cuter by the day.

Thank you Jane, I am beyond excited. I cry at the drop of a hat. It has been so long that I have waited for this. After meeting Murphy and Guinness I know I have my work cut out for me as far as training. I want a sit/stay that you would approve of. I will never forget your two and how good they were when I knocked on your door.

OMD, Sue.....you just made my day.  If you think you're crying at the drop of a hat now, just wait until you hold that Doodle baby in your arms as you bring her home.  I'm planning to live vicariously through you to satisfy all of my puppy fever urges.  I hope you have a camera ready.

I cannot wait to see her all grown up (although, I am not trying to rush this...LOL). She is just beautiful!!

Thank you.
