We never used one either.  i would leash her up and let her out the garage door. wait until you know she really has to go. Stay safe!!!

Stay save, can't help, not sure what I would do either.

I have no advice except keeping a roll of paper towels near by.

Be Safe!

My old dog trainer recommended taping black plastic bags to the garage floor. Take the dog out to them on leash and give the command to go. Give the dog 5-10 minutes to go and then if he goes fine. If not crate or confine them until you try again in the same way. Etc. Unfortunately my garage has no room for that at the moment and my dogs have never been been ones to go on command.

good idea! ill try that in my basement!!.. i hope that doesnt start him to start going in my house now :(

Wonder if you could just place leaves on all that plastic.  Every dog I have ever had, loves to go potty on a pile of leaves.

Since your baby is young, now is a good time to discuss the ' Potty Command'

Our word is  ' go out' but many use, potty, pee pee, whatever.   After every out, praise.  " Good Out"

Even my seasoned doodle is having trouble with this weather and just stands close to the door.  So, I tell him, "Go Out".  He gets it done.  " GOOD OUT" and I call him right back in before one of the trees falls on us.

This command is good when you travel or are in strange situations and can come in handy many more times in your dogs life.

So, for the next time, this may help you.

Oh, good luck and stay safe!!--you are going to get a monster storm surge--hope you will be OK. I hope one of these ideas works--I have not had to deal with that, but our yard has been flooded and the dogs have just plodded right thru it and peed.

I wouldn't even risk trying to go outside where you are.  Just have him go in the basement, whether it's on the wee wee pad or not.  Don't worry about him going in the house - this is an emergency situation.  He'll pick up on going potty outside again once the storm is over.

I never even thought of this.  Good luck. Stay safe.

Good luck!  Aside from the scariness of Sandy itself, sounds miserable to be stuck inside without a way to potty your dog normally.

Stay safe, good luck

I'm in Maryland about 5 miles North of D.C. and I had the same question.  Just as I was going to reply, Chablis decided it was time to go out.  I just suited up and took her in the back yard, keeping her close to the house and as far as possible from the numerous huge trees I have.  She was very quick!  Thank goodness, because she won't go in the house and certainly holding it in for the next 36 hours can't be healthy.
