Toby was exposed to a dog that has been diagnosed with kennel cough.  He has been "coughing" about twice a day.  Energy levels are fine, appetite is fine.  Mood is fine.  He is not coughing anything up.  Can I wait until Monday to take him to the vet?  He's due for shots, so I need to go in anyway.

Glad to hear all is well now!

That's great news Sandy. I hope you heard the end of that nasty cough!

Kennel cough virus is airborne like human colds and flu which means that all dogs should be protected and not just ones that go to Day Care or board.  Riley and Boris both got it and it's given intranasally so no needle.  It's a horrible illness and even with the vaccine they can get it but it's usually a milder dose.  I think there is more than one strain of the virus but I may be wrong.  Riley got a mild dose of it last year, it only lasted two days and didn't need antibiotics.  If you have ever heard a dog with the real deal you would definitely vaccinate.

Ps. I get them vaccinated in between their annual shots and not at the same time as I always think it best not to have too many at the same time.  If there was a` reaction you wouldn't know what was responsible for it.

Shelby has always gotten the vaccination... She gets boarded 3-4 times a year, goes to Playcare twice a week and visits the dog park weekly. She did get a mild case of kennel cough about 8 months ago... Anytime she exerted herself... She'd cough, sometimes while drinking and also if she pulled on her leash.... Did the meds and it cleared up pretty quick.

That sounds exactly like what is happening with Toby.  He seems to be on the mend.

Wilson was just at  the vet for a cough his sounded like he was coughing up a "Hairball" the vet told us they are seeing alot of dogs in our area with this type of cough  Wilson is on meds, I am keeping him away from his friends, and yesterday was the first day in a 3 days that we went for a walk,

He is sounding better, now he sounds like he is trying to hack a lugi, at least now when he eats he is not coughing!

Wally got Kennel Cough a few years ago, despite being vaccinated. His case was NOT mild, and he definitely needed to be seen by the vet. Both Charlotte and Wally receive the vaccine, because we were told that Kennel Cough can be spread at the groomer and at obedience classes.

Speak of the devil! Auggie has been coughing today when he runs around. When he is calm, he does not cough. I'm pretty sure it's kennel cough, though. He was at a daycare on Friday. Hope Monty does not get it. The first time Monty had kennel cough I thought something was stuck in his throat. Hope Toby gets over it fast.

Yeas ago my Shih Tzu picked up kennel cough and the only time I took her out was for a walk around the neighborhood, so she picked it up that way.
