Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Just dropping in to introduce us. Meg will be six months old in a few days and today is two weeks since she came to live at out house. I am over the moon in love with this dog and how intelligent she is. Her attitude about learning is "okay, I see what you are doing, now let me try that". Like today, two short training bouts and she caught on to shaking hands...she makes me feel brilliant!!
I am curious about what to expect with her hair coat, she is an F1 and getting scruffy about the face, we had to trim between her eyes, she has a very wavy back. I am hoping to get the Disney look about her but not sure it will progress that far (really love her anyway), anyone have any insight to what may happen with her coat?

Welcome, Judy! Meg is adorable! It's hard to tell from the photo, but I think you may get your Disney Dog look! My guy Jack has that look too. He sheds, and his coat is very easy to maintain; he never needs haircuts, just a little trimming around the eyes, the beard, and the privates, and he doesn't matt like non-shedding curly coated dogs do! All he needs is a bath every 6 weeks and regular brushing.
Hi Judy, Meg is beautiful and I am glad things are going well. I have no idea about coat type, but I love that scruffy look.
Welcome! Meg is adorable!
What a cute pup!! It is very possible that you will get the shaggy dog look! A few more photos would be helpful! Not all F1s are created equal as far as coat goes, so we really need to see what her coat is doing now. I have a pic of a pup born in April that I know who had a very wavy back at that age and looked similar--his coat is going thru a bit of a rough time right now, so he is a bit scruffy at the moment, but he will have a lovely wavy coat again soon.
Here is another pup who is one year old and was very labby with just a few feathery hairs at 6 months. You' ll just have to wait and see how lovely Meg turns out!
It is very hard to predict a young doodle's coat. We have two F1's. One is has a wavy fleece/wool coat that mats, doesn't shed and we keep pretty short to keep things easy. His half brother has a very thick but not as curly fleece coat. He barely sheds, doesn't mat and can wear a longer coat. Both have that doodley look but they do not look alike. Their coats changed considerably over the first year. Please join The Grooming Group to check out different coats. There is also a Pup to Adult group that will give you an idea of how different puppy coats turned out.
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and input on what we might expect. It seems hard to believe she can change that much yet so it will be like a little surprise each time. I love this little girl and want to know everything about what makes her life great.
Welcome to DK and thank you for rescuing Meg....she is so cute.
Thanks for the reply, I am getting curiouser and curiouser now. I would love to see Meg turn out to be a bit taller and heavier (not over weight, just larger) than now. I love a big dog.
Yeah, the waistline, I like a tuck up just before their hips, solid, muscular and lean. Riley sounds perfect. I would love to find an area close by to meet other doodles, so glad this forum is here.
Welcome Judy and Meg!
