I've looked through old posts but wanted a fresh set of responses.  We are updating our dog tags with new solid ones and I was wondering what is information is recommended.

In the good old days you could include your name and address but today????  I've heard the debate about placing the dogs name but what about yours (the owners).  I was told if you have the dogs name you should put your name that way if lost or worse case stolen they can contact you directly and your name on there solidifies ownership (in conjunction with the microchip, of course).

Then there are some that say do not mention microchip that way if stolen and taken to a vet the dog can be held until you are notified if the person bringing in the dog is not the owner listed on the chip, if they know they may try to remove the chip themselves (harming the dog) or take it to a shady vet who won't turn them in - if they take them to a vet at all?

Geez, I hate the world has come to this.  We camp A LOT in the desert along the river and my biggest fear is the dogs will take off and that tag would mean everything to a quick return if access to chip reading is not readily available?

I unfortuantely can not be with my girls all the time, I work full time and we do A LOT of outings where anything can happen (if not to them maybe me)?

What do you have on their id tags and/or what do you recommened?

Thanks,

Jolene

Hey thanks Joanne, Karen and Bonnie.   I missed you all too.  Cooper is doing pretty well considering his illness.   I posted a blog with photos earlier tonight, but I guess it has to be approved, so you will see it soon.

Good to hear from you, Martha! You have been missed! These are such valuable ideas. I'm going to try Laurie, Fudge and Vern's trick of convincing my DD to do this for me, pronto. ;o)

I have these tags for collars and for the harnesses. 2 for each doodle. I have their name, my and cell and DH name and cell.

I love these because they cannot get tangled when they play and they don't make noise!!

The Doodle Rescue Collective has an account with Boomerang Tags.  If you go to their site but order through us, the DRC gets a few dollars to help save a doodle in need. The prices are exactly the same as their site. The price of the tag includes shipping to your door. If anyone wants to order, same me the info that they require and email it to me at   adriannedrc@aol.com  You would pay for the tags directly to the DRC via PayPal.

I love the Boomerang tags they are really great quality and very safe too.  Great company, they deliver very quickly with no problems.  Good to know that ordering through DRC earns them some dollars.

My dog tags have the dog'/s name, adress and cell and home phone#s for me. aThe tags also say, lic., vaccinated and chipped. I don't have them wear rabies tags. The vet's phone number is also on it.

We have dog's first name, our last name, home #, cottage # and cell #

My breeder recommended this and I thought this was the best idea and have shared it with many.  DONT put your dog's name on the collar, they will or could warm up to someone when they are called by name - put YOUR name.  Doodle's are so cute and irrestistible, you have to make them NOT want to keep YOURS!

By putting "Needs daily medication" - no one wants to keep a sick dog, or if they have a heart would want to make sure that dog got the meds they need.

And last but not least if the other stuff does not work - maybe money or a reward will!  Below is what mine looks like!

Kami Allen

My phone number

Needs Daily Medication

Reward if found

My breeder told us the same thing and it made sense to me! Jack's tag reads:

NEEDS MEDS  -  REWARD

my cell phone #

my home phone #

He also wears our town's license tag.

Charlie's tag has his name on one side, my phone number and "If I'm out, I'm lost." I want people to know if for some reason he's out wandering, he's not supposed to be! Charlie is so fond of people, them knowing his name won't make any difference. He's of course chipped, and has a few unique physical markings to identify him if we ever have an "identity/ownership crisis."Yes, it sounds crazy... but if this saga doesn't tell you about how your dog should be chipped, and you should establish ownership/guardianship, nothing will!

I have my dogs' tags etched on both sides so that I can include their name and our last name, vet phone #, avid phone #, city lic #,  my first name with cell #, my dh's first name with cell #. I don't list our address.  We take them in our RV a lot so our address and our home phone number might not be helpful.  We order our pet tags through LuckyPetTags and I call when I order so that the lady can set it up while we talk.  The tags have a lifetime guarantee and I have only had one show a bit of wear.  They replaced it with no problem.  I don't like tag noise so I don't have them wear the city tag, rabies tag (obviously if they are licensed they have had a rabies shot), or microchip tag.  I used to have their microchip number on the tag also but it was pointed out to me that someone could use it to re-register them.

My dogs' identification tags are similar to yours.  I have their license and rabies numbers engraved into the back side of their tags, too.  Their hanging tags are made of plastic, and they also have Boomerang tags.

i do not have coopers name on the tag - mainly because they say that a dog is more likely to go with someone if they use their name... though coops would go with anyone! i just have phone numbers and microchipped. the cats also have indoor cat on theirs
