Spay question

Olive is 5 months and we have her spay squeduled for the 29th of this month. We decided to sign her up for puppy training class and I totally forgot about her spay. Should I start the puppy class and postpone her spay until after or spay first and wait until the next puppy training session starts ( in 7 wks). She really needs both, but dont know which is more important right now. Opinions appreciated!

Misti, we just had Nellie spayed yesterday (she is 5 months old). She, too, is signed up for puppy classes beginning Monday night. I am quite familiar with the trainer, and I know that we don't allow the pups to socialize during class. They are there to learn. We are planning on taking her. If you do not know how your trainer works, I suggest you explain the scenario, and ask their opinion. Good luck! We are having trouble keeping Nellie calm...of course she is a snicker doodle!

We did the same thing with Lucy when she was 5 months old. She was already in puppy training classes when her spay rolled around. I think we just kept her out of that particular class that week, but made it up at another time in a different puppy class (I think it was later in the week). It's been 3 yrs so I don't fully recall the particulars, but it didn't present any major problems. Oscar will be getting his neuter procedure before we start puppy classes, so that's a non issue. I'd suggest you check with your trainer to see what they advise.
