Weird lump on Lily's belly

I was petting Lily last night (which always results in her rolling over on her back so you will rub her tummy.)  Right in the middle of her belly, about 2 inches below where her ribcage ends is a round lump about the size of a nickel.  It feels "squishy" for lack of a better term.  It's not red at all.  When I press on it she squirms a bit but doesn't act like it hurts her.  I'm going to call the vet on Monday, but I was wondering if any of you had any thoughts/ideas of what it could be?

Sounds like an umbilical hernia. How old is she, is she spayed yet ? Finnley had one, it didn't bother her at all. They fixed it when she was spayed in November.

     My old dog, kobie who was a lab, Had a lot of these.  he was unusually large, so it  may joust be a fat lump.  But more like what Sheila said.

I agree it is most likely an umbilical hernia given the location. A lipoma is another possibility.

Sounds like an umbilical hernia to me too.  Camus has one. He was spayed at a shelter and the hernia was not repaired at that time.  His is round, slightly raised, and soft, but his vet said not to be concerned at this time and I just have it checked every few months when he is at the vet for something else.

Sounds like an umbilical hernia to me as well. Bella had one and it was repaired during her spaying. It's good to have it checked by the vet though. Let us know what they say?

Charlie has am umbilical hernia that is exactly like you described (diagnosed by Dr Doodle Mom and confirmed by the vet!). Because he's already neutered, they said at this point, they wouldn't want to fix it until he needs surgery for something else.

Thanks everyone! She is 4.5 months, planning to spay her in a couple of months. I'm hoping you're all right and it's just an umbilical hernia they can fix at the same time. I had no idea they were that common. I'm going to call the vet Monday, I'll let you know what they say.

Daisy had an umbilical hernia, they fixed it when she was spayed. Most likely they well do the same for Lily if that is what it is. The Vet is where to find out for sure...let us know what they say.

I think dogs have a lot of these little "tumors" and it is worth checking at the vet when you have her in for something else.  My vet had said that they were little fatty tumors and nothing to worry about.  I'm taking my dog to the vet tomorrow for a "tumor" on his shoulder that keeps draining.  We want to give him a bath and haircut, but I didn't want to disturb his "owie".  It's always something.

So the vet concurred that it's an umbilical hernia.  She said it's very small and she couldn't push anything back in so they're going to look at it again the morning of her spay to determine if it should be fixed or can be left alone.  Thanks for your help, such a relief to know it's nothing serious!
