Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hello,

I'm writing this today becasue I am quite confused about my little buddy. He is about eight months old now and his coat is so odd. On his back I can start to see a  curl coming in and he does have feathering but his face is completely smooth. I have no clue what he will look like when he's older. It seems that half of his fur is smooth and the other in growing in curly. I was wondering if anybody could help me with figuring out what in the world his coat will look like. The pictures I attached are him at  eight weeks and then at 6 months and the last is a picture of a close up of his coat.

His coloring looks like either spaniel or border collie to me.  He's so adorable!

If you want to see a smooth goldendoodle have a look at my Luna's pictures :)  It's possible your pup is a poodle mix of some sort, but I definitely wouldn't say golden.

I have a labradoodle that is black and white and had a lot of speckles in certain parts at that age that are now just white and black mixed in to make grey--but I am a bit confused when I read the replies--do we KNOW that your dog is a goldendoodle or are you not sure? He looks like a springerdoodle to me--springer with poodle. BUT again, my LD who does not have any springer spaniel had similar markings but a different coat type.Mine has the facial furnishings. I think the parti-color poodles can have that pattern but not that often. Not sure where it comes from. here he is at 4 months and today at 2 years--not quite thbut the markings are similar. the third pic is of a springerdoodle that reminds me of your pup.

Ginny, Rio might have gotten some of his coloring from a spaniel ancestor, since we know that cocker spaniels were heavily involved in the development of the ALDS, and possibly other spaniels as well.

But I agree, it's puzzling how a goldendoodle could have gotten this type of coloring and patterning, as Goldens do not have anything like this, and even parti poodles rarely do.

OMD, Ginny, the last picture of Rio looks just like a puppy picture of the Springer Spaniel DH had when we first got married.  Rio and Morgan could of been mistaken as litter mates.

I just LOVE Rio, what a cutie! Love his colorings!

I love these pictures Ginny!  Your Doodle is soooo beautiful:)

Hello everyone! Thanks for the comments and welcom's! Dexter's parents were both first generation doodles. hHis mother was all black and his father was golden. There were ten pups all together in his litter 7 were all black, 1 was all golden, and 2 were black and white. One of the pups grandparents was the black and white parti color that Dexter ended up with. He is a big sweet boy.

Both parents being F1s explains the smooth face.

He's an F2 Goldendoodle.

F2s have the greatest possible variations in coats of any generation. Here's a good explanation, see the section on Second generation F2s:

Yup im 100% sure that my pup is a goldendoodle  (:

I'm not sure what coat type he technically has, but he sure is adorable!  he has such a sweet face!

Looks pretty normal to me for a doodle pup.  My first labradoodle had the same kind of coat when he was young.  It is enjoyable to see what they will turn out like.  He does look more goldendoodle than labradoodle to me.  So maybe the hair will be softer and longer.  You will just have to wait and see.

What a cutie!!!!! My breeder has some parti doodles similar to that color .....sort of....so cute!!!
