Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Wherever we go, people ask me what breed of dog Duncan is. I think a lot of folks have an image that comes to mind when they think of a labradoodle, and my Dood (with his black, straight-ish fur) apparently does not fit the description :). When people ask what breed he is and make a guess, they come up with the following:

Irish Wolf Hound -65% of guesses
Portuguese Water Dog - 20% of guesses
Labradoodle - 10% of guesses
Giant Schnauzer 5% of guesses

Ok, so I personally think the Giant Schnauzer and Water Dog are a bit of a stretch, but a lot of people do think he is an Irish Wolf Hound. I am curious - what breeds do people mistake your doodle for?

Several English Sheepdog guesses...even from someone walking their Sheepdog. When she runs her furry face really does look like a Sheep dog.

A Bearded Collie from a few.

Most have no idea what she might be.

And 2 thought maybe the animal from the Never Ending Story ; )

How funny, I often think my goldendoodle is the spitting image of Falcor (the animal from the never ending story), too!

Great Split shot of Falcor & Lilly

OH This pic totally made my day. Yes totally looks like Falcor!

Oh, I love this! I have always thought some doodles looked like Falcor! Classic :)

I am always asked if Libby is a Poodle!  I proudly say she is our Labradoodle:)

Portugese Water Dog!  Someone stopped their car once with their PWD hanging out the window thinking Quince was a relative, I think!

I saw one this weekend and side by side they have the same hair, but a short tail and stubbier face.  I think my guy will get bigger than most PWD as well since he is now 45 lbs at 7 1/2 months.

Jack is almost always identified as an Irish Wolfhound, which I can see.  This past weekend two people thought he was a deerhound.  I usually tell people he's an Amish Wolfhound

I can certainly see why people would say an Irish Wolfhound! How big is Jack?

PWD alllll the time.

Poodle has been the most frequent guess, but because of his red coat, they always have this weird look on their faces when they ask, as if they are trying to reconcile the poodle-y features with the weird coat. (Yes, I know there are apricot and red poodles, but they just don't look the same).

I would say "labradoodle" because that's what he his, although I see no lab in my dog!

Wow, I've never even heard about some of these breeds. But honestly I think that's one of the things that I love so much about doodles (and so do most doodle parents) - there is such variety!
