How to describe a "doodle cut" to my new groomer?

Hi everyone. Thanks for reading my post. I have an 8 month old Australian Labradoodle. She has been groomed three times so far. Mostly, her pads, eyes, ears and privates. The groomer isn't familiar with labradoodles and insists that she be shaved with clippers like a poodle or bichon. No matter how I explain it to her, she insists that her fur is too long. Also, that her puppy fur needs cut off so that the adult can come in better.

My doodle isn't matted and her fur is trimmed nicely around the essential areas (eyes, ears, privates). We like her fur shaggy and natural looking rather than a short cut. She is going to a new groomer on Tuesday. I've been searching the internet for a good description on how to cut a doodle.

Any advice on how to explain a doodle cut? Scissor or clipper cut?

Do you need to cut short so that the adult fur comes in nicely? Her puppy coat is softer and straighter. The adult fur is spiral.

Our labradoodle Dexter is a F1B. He has fleece fur that is very soft and slightly wavy. He had his first major haircut at around 9 months old (his fur had gotten insanely long). We asked for him to be left at around 1 inch on his body and top of the head (and to clean up his face). We always ask for the groomer to try to not cut his eyelashes (if possible) and to just trim up the tail a bit (not to cut it short). Our groomer uses electric clippers. We also have electric clippers we use on Kirby and I don't honestly see a difference between scissors and clippers.

My best advice is to find photos of what you like and bring them. Dexter's fur will matt and we have found keeping him cut shorter makes our lives so much easier. I now have no worries about how short he is - I like both the shaggy and short looks. I don't think you need to cut her super short to help her adult coat come in, but if she starts to get matted we found it is so much easier to just cut them down and start fresh.

Dexter is really cute! I love the gently waves. Just from looking at it, I assumed that Dexter's type of fur didn't mat.

I always bring pictures of the cut I want. The first few times, I even wrote out "Do's and Don'ts" in fear of getting a poodle cut.

My groomer now has Chewie's picture in her iPhone :) Yes, I like boot-cut legs :)

The big question is how often do you take Chewie in for grooming?

Chewie has the same coat as Chip's, and the groomer wants him in every 4 weeks.

I have never been able to get his coat back to that length, in Chewie's second pic.

Four weeks seem excessive and expensive. Actually since my two were just scalped, despite written and verbal directions, I'm thinking we'll go 3 months. But every two months seem reasonable I'm interested in Kimmy's answer.

Every 4 weeks is very often, but if you want to maintain that long shaggy look I could see how it would be necessary. I groom mine maybe 3 times a year at best. So it's as F said a good 3 months or more for my two between grooming.
. I do take their coats down to about 3/4 " when I do cut though. If I wanted them to look like Chewie, it would take a LOT of work and many more clippings. So there are a lot of things to consider in having them look a certain way all the time and maintaining that length. Cost being the biggest if you arent doing it yourself and time being the other if you are. I personally love the really short look as much as I love the long shaggy look that they get between grooming.
