Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi there, I just joined this forum and think it's great! I have a 6 1/2 month F1 Goldendoodle named Millie, who I just love...
Her coat right now is just a short shag, soft on her paws and head but fairly coarse and loose curls on her back. Her dad was an English Retriever. We met up yesterday with one of her siblings and this pup had wayyyyyy longer hair than Millie, looked like a Sheepdog actually. I know there can be quite a variation of coat types in a litter but I was quite surprised! Since there's lots of Doodley experience on this forum I thought I'd get some input/opinions on Millie's coat. I'm wondering if it will continue to grow and get a lot shaggier as she gets older?
Any input would be great! :)

Do you have any photos you can embed into your post for us?

From just your profile picture, she looks as if she will be shaggy but it it hard to tell.

As Adina said, could you give us more photos?.  We all love photos here so don't hold back. Wish one tiny picture, we really can't answer your question.

Here's a couple more pics, I hope I've attached them correctly?

One at a time I guess, lol...

Sorry, Enid--I just had to giggle over these photos of your adorable dog.  She's upside down....LOL

Click on the photo icon in the bar above--it is the second from the left and then you can add the photo to the discussion and can click on it again and add another.

And she is lovely--like the big waves--same coat as the one I mention below..that started to get curls when 1 yr old--especially on the back of head and neck.

Here you go:

Millie

Millie looks a lot like Calla did back then in terms of her coat. Be careful what you wish for, Calla has the thickest doodly coat.

She is so darn cute!  What a sweet face...  My Annie is 8 1/2 months old now, and her hair IS longer than it was at 6 1/2 months, but I don't think she will ever have flowing crazy hair - and will probably just stay shaggy.  I love the way she looks and couldnt be happier with her.  And just like you, her paws and head are soft, and the fur on her back is a bit wirey.  It's so weird.

I think the hair growth slows down a bit as they get to their adult height and weight.  I would say Millie's hair probably will grow a bit longer, because she is still a pretty young puppy - I think they are not considered full grown until they are a year and a half - two years old, if you have a standard...

Here is Annie December 15th (6 1/2 months old) and Beginning of February.  Not a drastic change by any means, but her hair is definitely a bit longer:

Oh Annie is so very cute, lots of character!! Yes I think Millie's hair will get a bit longer then, I'd be totally happy with that...lower maintenance and maybe no need to clip? I must say that I found her litter mate's hair a bit too long for my liking - we live on a hobby farm and that type of coat would be a lot of upkeep!
Thanks for the nice complements on Millie you guys! I thinks she's pretty darn adorable too... :)

oooh, so cute!! I groom a goldendoodle who had a similar coat as a pup and when he was about 1 year old and came for a haircut there were all these curls coming in under the straighter hair--I have seen that often--but not always--they go thru a big coat change at the age of 10 months to 14 months and you might see more mats at that time--but then the adult coat settles in and it is easier to care for than the "transition" period.

Here is a  picture of another doodle who was very straight and shaggy as a pup--you can see that she has more curls now at 1 1/2 years old..it is always a surprise package!

Here Enid,

Use this as a guide to upload your photos next time.  But I must say, she will get shaggier.  It just eventually unwinds itself. Then, you have more to BRUSH

1. Click on the Picture

2. Select browse to choose a .jpeg or .png file in your own computer

Thanks Joanne, I'll try that next time. I'm using my Ipad, probably be easier using my computer when it comes to adding pics.
