Even though my two mini labradoodles never met a cat until they moved in with me when they were 20 months old, they and the two cats are pretty comfortable together. Now that it's cold, they don't mind lying in heaps on the couch... They sometimes try to play with a cat, but the cats have learned to ignore them, even when pounced on (that doesn't usually happen). The cats are roughly the same size as the doodles, and much better armed, but no cat has ever hurt a dog or vice versa. The cats are both female Maine Coons, about 4 years old.

Those photos are adorable!
Our Doodle Cassie lived with 2 cats in her first house. However, Blanco, our 5.5 year old cat has never lived with dogs before Cassie stormed into the house! He doesn't like to be bothered by people either - he 'll come to you when he comes to you, and leave him alone in the meantime. Well, Cassie is obsessed with Blanco, she constantly jumps when she sees him, and wags the tail, and cries - Blanco seemed scared in the beginning, would leave the house and not come back for a day or two... but he's more annoyed than scared of her now. When she gets too close, he does the 'grrr...meow...hiss' thing, and she steps back, but a second later, she's back for more. I am afraid he'll scratch her eyes out one day. As you can imagine, it was a rare occasion I photographed and put on My Page - where the two of them are calmly lying on the same bed (it wasn't Blanco's idea, of course)! The photo I am attaching to this message is a more common situation - Cassie's begging, Blanco is annoyed. We struggle with this issue every day... what to do, what to do??? We feel for Blanco, he lost the throne, he lost his peace...poor guy... on the other hand, I feel bad for Cassie, because she means no harm, she just wants to play. I am pretty sure she thinks Blanco's name is 'CASSIE-NO-ON-YOUR-SPOT', since that's all she hears when they are in the same room.
Any ideas, anybody, how we can get Cassie to not be so excited around Blanco? I think he would tolerate her, if she only stopped being so jumpy and so excited around him.
Our cats actually don't mind Kali, but we do have trouble with Kali getting too excited around the cats (our younger cat likes to play chase with Kali, it's quite funny when it's the cat chasing the dog around the house). We've been using an interruption technique that our trainer taught us. In our house rules it's ok for Kali to sniff the cats or give them a lick but when she starts pushing them around or using her paws we give her a firm touch on her side and say "leave it". I don't know if you've seen and dog whisperer but it's a little like what he does. It does take a lot of persistence but it's been a few weeks and now just a "leave it" seems to work.
Jackdoodle is great with my cat; that was one of my non-negotiable issues when I adopted him. He had supposedly lived with a cat before, and the shelter tested him with a cat in my presence before I adopted him. He is very calm around her, occasionally tries to get her to roll a ball back to him, but mostly just gives her a passing sniff & leaves her alone. They hang out on my bed together most of the time when I'm not home. And of course, Jack loves the "treats" the cat leaves for him in the litter box, lol.
For her part, Dinah the cat had lived with my previous dog since she was a kitten, and my poodle was not as nice to her as Jackdoodle is. I think she enjoyed her 4 months of being an only pet before Jack came to live with us, but other than a look of alarm when he first approached her, and a slightly PO'd attitude towards me, she has taken him in stride. Peace definitely reigns between dog & cat at my house.

I don't own a cat but anytime Lola meets one, all she wants to do is play with them. Which the cats don't seem to like so much because she wants to romp around with them.
Koda and our cat have a love/hate relationship. Kind of like brothers. The cat will hiss at Koda if he gets to close to him while playing (anticipating Koda running into him...again) and when he hisses Koda barks and chases him for a couple steps. The kind of pick on each other. The cat has also smacked Koda in the butt when he happened to be walking by where the cat was sleeping a few times. Like I said, it's love/hate....haha
I love Maine Coons! I had one Onyx, He was the biggest bundle of love. I still miss him.
Anyways my Doodle loves my Cats, she plays, sleeps, and cleans their ears.
Our 11 month F-1 Goldendoodle, Holly, absolutely loves our cat, Felix. He is usually wet around the head and neck from her licking him. He looks like he is wearing a spiked hairdo.
Apparently Felix likes her also, he puts up with her loving him when he could easily walk or run off. However, Felix also loves our four Maltese and will lay on the floor as all four of them groom him.
Felix is a 25 pound feline whose mother was a feral cat. He is about 11 years old and his best pal before Holly was our Golden Retriever/German Shepherd/Wolf hybrid. She was a puppy and he was a kitten when we brought them together.
When I brought Bisbee home (5 months old) he was met at the door by Mac (our 16 yr old cat). Mac did a quick study, summed him up and school began. Now they're not cozy buddies but, they do sleep on the bed together, play (kinda) and respect each other's space. Cat #2, Pinky, travels with my husband and while they are home now, she is a little cautious, hisses a lot and wishes he would leave. Bisbee wants to be her best friend. I think doodles generally are cat people...
Jersey LOVES cats. When we visit my daughter who has two cats, all she wants to do is play with the cats and ignores their two dogs, if the cats are around. She met two other cats, one a resident cat at a nursing home we visited and another at a friend's house. She was invited back at both places, after being very gentle with the cats.
