Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone....

I'm new to DK and we are getting our labradoodle puppy on March 16th!!  Our pup will be a cream colored little girl.  I'm completely obsessing over names (among other things!).  I understand that you all love playing the name game, so I'm hoping you'll feel like weighing in on our top 3 choices. I can't decide between Lupin (one of my favorite spring flowers), Marin (from Marin Co, CA which we love) and Mango (funny, goofy tropical name).  And if anyone has any off-beat names to suggest....I'm all ears!

If she's a St Paddy's day girl here is my offering of Irish names:

Orla= Golden Princess

Tara

Kyla

Ciara (Kee-ra)

Keelin = Fair

Keeva= Beauty

Bridget

Haha....MY name is Bridget and my son's name is Kyle (really close to Kyla).

I was strongly advised to stay away from a long O sound in a dog's name, because it sounds too much like the word, "no."  You will want her to always have a positive association with her name.  For this reason, I'd stay away from the name, Mango.  I'd vote for Marin, which sounds very pretty to me.  While lupins are lovely, I think I'd feel funny shouting the name Lupin when you're outdoors.  When I looked at her pictures, the name Clara came to my mind immediately.  She's a beauty!

That is a very interesting point about the name ending in O sounding too much like no. If you call out Mango a couple of times, I can totally hear it. I guess if you go with a name that ends in O you just need to really refrain from using the word no, but I'm sure that will be tough.

I try to say "AHHH" instead but I still say no from time to time.

Hahaha....I never thought about calling out "Luuupin" outside.  People might think I'm insane for yelling out a flower name that isn't actually there. Nice!  I love the name Clara but a good friend just named her baby Clara, so that is out!

Thanks so much to everyone for all your ideas and input.  You've given me lots to think about!  I'm also really surprised at how many people take the time to "talk" to a newbie.....this is a very welcoming place.  I look forward to sharing our trials and tribulations here!

Oh Bridget, we are all here for the same reason...the love of our "babies". We all LOVE to talk about them... yours or ours. There is a lot to be learned here, no matter how long you have been a member. I'm so glad you feel welcome here!

My grandkids all thought of great names,wrote them all down,then we drew one from a hat. That was fun for everyone.We have Shea,(husbands from NY,Shea Stadium),Mya,Aja (,some Steeley Dan song) All graet names. I think the older shaggery Doodles looke like Coopers,Murpheys,etc. Have fun...
