Canon USA is offerng a sale on refurbished cameras, lenses and other gear.  Refurbished is the way I prefer to purchase my cmeras.  I have purchased three refurbished Canon DSLR cameras and have had absolutely no problems with any of them and have ben shooting with my 30D, 40D and 7D for years no with no glitches.  OTOH, the two DSLR cameras I previously purchased new, each needed to go in for service within the first 90-days of purchase.  As a result of my experiences, I tend to have more confidence in the quality control at the Canon Service Centers than the Q.C. at the Canon Assembly Line.  At least a refurbished icamera is checked by a human.  That is not necessarily the case with cameras coming off the assembly line.

Oooh. This is all too tempting. :-)

The link you posted is ongoing.  It is always there with all sorts of equipment added monthly.

Yep, it is ongoing but, there is a sale on right now and the prices are a bit lower than usual...

I purchased the 40mm f/2.8 lens.  I wanted a lens even smaller in size than the 50mm f/1.8 to carry on my DSLR to shoot our "Furever" families with their newly adopted dogs...  I have an old Canon XT camera which will make a tiny package with the 40mm f/2.8 lens for this and other uses when I want/need a small camera/lens combination.

I LOVE my 40 f/2.8. What is tempting me is that 50mm f/1.4. I'd love to upgrade my 50mm f/1.8

Camilla, I just got my 40 f2.8 lens and I am having a difficult time with the focus. I have left it on auto focus and in aperture priority is seems fine. When using shutter priority on my 30D everything is out of focus when I look at it in 100%. Also ISO stays at 1000 and everything is blown out. Is this the lens or am I really not understanding this whole process? Your pics of Darwin using that lens are just fantastic.

Hm, not sure. I know that the lens CAN have focusing issues, but it's mainly a phenomenon where it randomly won't focus at all and you have to take it off the camera, then put it back on to get it to focus again. Mine does that but I'm too lazy to send it in and exchange. :-)

Have you tried shooting a still object when you are in shutter priority? Is it possible you are just missing the focus? If not, and it's the lens, I would return it and get a new copy. Mine does the same in TV as AV

I will try using it for stationary objects. Thanks for the tip.

Camilla, I can definitely recommend the 50 f/1.4.

I just saw this...and I'm already too late.  I want the 70-200 L lens, but it's already sold out at this price.  Thanks for sharing this Richard.
