I gave my five month old, 22 pound mini doodle a bully stick yesterday. We were together in the family room. Ten minutes later, I couldn't find the bully stick. Ten minutes later, she started to choke and barfed up an eight inch bully stick. I'll attach a picture of this thing. It's kinda gross. But it scared the hell out of me. This thing could have killed her. I have no idea how on earth she swallowed this thing. It wasn't her first bully stick, but it will certainly be her last.

Thank you for sharing! I am happy all is well!

I had wanted to give Goldie some Bully sticks since I saw several DK members mention them but then a very close friend at work shared a horror story with me that is very similar to yours only her pup did not survive the trauma. I decided against them after that.

This happened yesterday early afternoon. Today she has seemed tired and restless. In the past hour, she has puked eight times. Twice was her breakfast. The rest have been all bile. I called the vet. They are just ready to close. They told me to "watch her" and either all them in the morning, or take her to an emergency clinic nearby. I'm very worried. Right now she's laying at my feet, asleep. This might turn out to be bad....

Make sure she is getting small amounts of water to compensate for all the fluids she's losing vomiting. She might be dehydrated and that's why shes acting so lethargic. If she can't hold down small amounts of water, I would take her to the emergency vet.

Oh no, I just posted below that I was glad everything turned out okay and now I'm reading this. Do you think its related to the bully stick from yesterday? Is it possible she ate her breakfast too fast which caused her to puke it all up and then had an empty stomach which made her throw up bile? My Lucy will throw up bile when she needs food in her stomach. You may want to try small (no more than 2T), frequent meals rather than a large one and see if she keeps those down. You can give her water mixed in with her food to get some fluids in her if she's not drinking. I hope she's okay.

I usually feed her three times a day. Natural Balance dry. She ate breakfast and left her lunch. She puked up her breàkfast around 4:00 PM. Around 6:00 PM, I gave her a couple of tablespoons of canned Natural Balance. She seemed to perk up after that. And she seems better now. I just took her for a little walk in the cold air. I hope that helps. Thx!

OH no.  8 times is too much.

I'm sorry to hear this update

Oh no! So sorry to hear!  I hope she's doing better - update when you can :-(

That's so scary! I'm glad everything turned out okay. This is a wake up call for us, as Oscar is one of those types of puppies who will eat anything, and FAST. He makes small work of the large Sam's Yams dried sweet potato chips, and I'm sure he'd devour a bully stick as quickly as your pup (and probably whole if he could manage it). Thanks for posting this... bully sticks are off 'the menu' for now.

All is well today. I am totally amazed. And grateful for your comments. I've learned a good lesson about these "chew things".
Happy to hear good news! Thanks for sharing. I think we all learned from your experience!

Soooo relieved for you both!!! WHEW. And thank you so much for sharing this - I need all the tips I can get before bringing our pup home!
