Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Our sweet Macy is 17 weeks old and has been diagnosed with a shunted liver! She is showing ALL the signs! It's so sad to watch her! She's had several seizures with the severe neurological symptoms (walking the walls with her head down and pressing her head into things and wobbly!)
Is there anyone on here that has a happy, healthy labradoodle with a shunted liver that is controlling the toxins with diet and meds?? We just can't afford to spend the $6000 on a surgery that is complicated with a low success rate! Help!?

This is one of those times I wish I had won the Lotto : ( but if we all gave a bit and this was a runner with the Doodle Messenger we could definitely help. All I'm thinking about is the urgency of this surgery. I don't know that much but my feeling with this (having read the links above) is that it would have to be done sooner rather than later?

I also see that this is most probably hereditary and that the veterinary advice for this serious illness is that the dam and sire not be bred again. I hope that the breeder takes heed and does the right thing.

I am very sorry to hear about your puppy.

I'm so sorry. Thinking of you guys and hoping for the best.

Oh how sad for all of you. Is she in any distress? Poor baby. I hope you will find the best solution for this and keep you in my prayers.

Im so sorry to hear about Macy.  We wish you guys the best..

Tammy, I don't know if this will be of any help, but there might be some resources for you on this website: http://www.vet.utk.edu/clinical/sacs/calendar/

This must be devastating for you.  I am so sorry for you and for Macy.

Thank you again everyone for all your support, advice, comments and recommendations!
We are just exploring our options right now and researching. We haven't made decisions yet. We are waiting for her special food and meds to come. We'll give that a try and see how she responds. Her body/brain is so toxic right now due to the ammonia levels that we need to allow some time for detoxing and let the body adjust to the new diet and meds. I'm contacting MSU to talk to them directly about the surgical process.
I'll keep everyone updated!!

Our family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers!

Oh Tammy I am so sorry to read this about Macy.  I can only imagine how heart broken you are and worried too.  I will be praying for Macy and you and please keep us posted on how she is doing.

Thanks so much!

I am so sorry about your puppy and will hope for the best!

I'm so sorry! Wishing you and Macy the best of luck<3
