Lyme Vaccine?

Hi All- Archie just got his rabies shot and remaining boosters, but the vet mentioned we need to come back next week for 1 of 2 lyme vaccines. Ive been reading kind of scary effects of the vaccine, so just curious if anyone has any more info on this? Did your dogs get this vaccine? If so, did anything happen?

Any feedback would be great. thanks.

My dogs get the vaccine every year with no ill effects.

Both of mine get it also No affects. I live in VA so it's necessary to have it. We have friends in the neighborhood that have found out their dogs are infected with Lymes. Not taking a chance!!!

It is a relatively new 2 part vaccine with reported problems. I will have to look up the stats but I do know that there have been deaths associated with it's administration. Now it may very well be that the dogs that were adversely effected by the vaccine already had compromised immune systems or other auto-immune related illnesses and disorders prior to receiving the Lyme vaccine. This has also been the case with the Lepto vaccine.

I do not give it to my dogs as per the advice of my vet. I have them tested for Lyme every year and if they happen to come up positive will treat with Doxycycline.

BB Tested positive at his annual last year -- with no symptoms. We treated with Doxy i think. We'll continue to get tested annually, but I don't know what help the vaccine would be. My vet doesn't feel strongly one way or the other...

A former dog of mine had a bad reaction to the Lyme vaccine but it was quite a while ago and the vaccine may be different now. She lost bladder and bowel control and walked like every joint in her body hurt. Thankfully she did recover but it was quite frightening and I have not vaccinated a dog for it since.  I do live in a relatively low risk area though.
