I am so shook up I can barely type. We were out on our a.m. walk when suddenly this dog got out of his yard and attacked JD. I had to drop his leash, he was trapped. JD put up a fight but he's handicapped by his ruptured disc, and he fell. The other dog was over him down on the ground, I was screaming and trying to kick the other dog, I don't even know exactly what happened, my brain just shut down and it's a blur, it all happened so fast, but the dog was off of him by the time the owners came out. I was mostly worried about JD's back and didn't even know he was bitten until we got home. He has a puncture wound with a tear under his eye (thank God he missed the eye itself) and a big scrape across the top of his head. We're just back from the ER. They cleaned it and gave me pain meds and antibiotics...just what he needs with his IBD. I may not give him the pain meds, but I have to give him the amoxicillin, which is certain to upset his stomach. And I have to apply warm compresses to the wound under his eye several times a day for a few days so it doesn't scab up too fast. I am so upset I'm shaking. That dog got out of that yard so fast and so easily, they may as well not even have had a fence.
Going to pick up his amoxicillin now. Poor JD.

Yep, and again this afternoon. He's such a stoic, it's hard to know if he's hurting; but he is just not a fidgety dog, so I figure if he can't relax, it must mean he's pretty uncomfortable.
Thanks, Sue!
Karen - just now seeing this. I'm so very sorry this happened to JD but grateful too that the bite wasn't in his eyeball. I know what a great mom you are to him so I'm sure you'll be nursing back to normal soon. Hugs to you both!
Thanks, Jane! We've missed you around here!
oh my word :( i'm so sorry that this happened to you and JD... thankfully it wasn't worse though.. i'll be sending my prayers out to you and JD for a speedy recovery
Thank you, Caleb.
So far so good on the injuries. I hope you both can relax soon.
Thanks, Charlotte.
Thanks, Cheryl!
OMG, this brought tears to my eyes. That's horrible. Poor JD. That shouldn't have to be something to worry about. People need to be responsible and make sure that their dogs (especially aggressive ones) are secure in their yards. I'm so sorry - your poor dog and I can't imagine the worry and confusion that was going through your head. I'm so happy that JD's eye was not injured.
My dad was bitten by a dog while taking a walk in a neighborhood. The dog was aggressive and bit him pretty hard. He found out that the dog was not even up to date on his vaccines. Irresponsible people!!!!!
I hope JD recovers nicely. So sorry again!
Thank you, Kristin. I hope your dad is okay.
