I am so shook up I can barely type. We were out on our a.m. walk when suddenly this dog got out of his yard and attacked JD. I had to drop his leash, he was trapped. JD put up a fight but he's handicapped by his ruptured disc, and he fell. The other dog was over him down on the ground, I was screaming and trying to kick the other dog, I don't even know exactly what happened, my brain just shut down and it's a blur, it all happened so fast, but the dog was off of him by the time the owners came out. I was mostly worried about JD's back and didn't even know he was bitten until we got home. He has a puncture wound with a tear under his eye (thank God he missed the eye itself) and a big scrape across the top of his head. We're just back from the ER. They cleaned it and gave me pain meds and antibiotics...just what he needs with his IBD. I may not give him the pain meds, but I have to give him the amoxicillin, which is certain to upset his stomach. And I have to apply warm compresses to the wound under his eye several times a day for a few days so it doesn't scab up too fast. I am so upset I'm shaking. That dog got out of that yard so fast and so easily, they may as well not even have had a fence.

Going to pick up his amoxicillin now. Poor JD.

So sorry to hear about what has happened to you and Jack. Such a frightening experience! I am glad that Jack is going to be ok....and also that the offenders covered the vet bills. I hope Jack is back to his old self very soon!

Thanks, Diana.

Karen~ I just saw your post.  I am so sorry to hear about JD.  I hope he is feeling better today!  This happened to Charlie last summer and it scared to me death - so I know how you are feeling.  It is so sad that many dogs are prey driven and just come blasting out of no where to attack your dog!  I hope you called the police and reported the incident and I also hope the owners of the attacker are responsible and pay for all expenses to you.

Since our incident, I do not leave the house with out either "Halt" or "Police OC-17 Magnus" in my pocket - both are sprays.  On a positive note, I have never had to use it.  One incident like this is enough to shake you up for a long time.

I wish you both well.

Thanks, Linda. I'm going to look into the products you mentioned.

so sorry to hear , will be lifting you all up in prayer!!!

Thank you, Diane.

Oh Karen!  This is awful and i'm so sorry this happened to JackDoodle (and you).  I felt so awful reading about incident and want to cry!  I skimmed through all the comments and am glad he had a good night and his stomach is ok.  How are his wounds doing?  Is he still in a lot of pain or are the pain meds helping?  I hope he gets heals fast!  He's already has so much to deal with!  Have the owners of that other dog contacted you?  They better pay for all his medical expenses and do something about that dog so he never gets out of the yard again!!!

My Neighbor has a jindo and she always walks with a large stick.  She told me that it's because when they come across some breeds they usually do not like her jindo and try to instigate so she has the stick to protect them.  The stick is as tall as her shoulders.

Thanks, Joanna. The owners did reimburse me for his vet bills. He's getting the pain meds as he does seem to be in some pain.

I don't know if i could manage a stick as large as your neighbor's, but i do intend to get something for protection. .

Why not something like a cops billy club?

That seems like it might be shorter and heavier than what I need, but I really don't know how long they are or what they weigh.

JD's wounds today:

Wow.  He barely missed the eye.
