The other night I was washing blueberries when Vern and Fudge came around to see if something good was happening. I never feed them from the table, but I took two blueberries and gave them each one. Now, when I say I gave them each one, I mean Vern stood and looked at me like, “what am I supposed to do with this blue thing?” Fudge took it gingerly in her mouth and decided to take her newfound treat to the dining room just in case Vern was hot on her tail. Vern was still back in the kitchen deciding whether or not I was trying to poison him or if this was April Fools Day! Once he saw that Fudge was interested in her blueberry, he decided to give it a shot and took the blueberry from me as if I had just handed him a loaded gun. He promptly ran into the dining room and spit it on the floor. From there, both dogs decided a better place to eat a blueberry would be in the sunroom and picked their bounty up and ran out the door only to spit it on the carpet out there. I was envisioning having to get the carpet cleaned by the time each of them downed one stinking blueberry.
Fudge finally ate her new treat, but Vern decided there were some things he absolutely refused to swallow and lo and behold, it was a blueberry. Who knew the dog that eats mud, grass, goose poop, and Kleenex had a discerning palate? I guess he had to draw the line somewhere. Luckily, Fudge decided one blueberry was not enough and was more than happy to eat Vern’s. Fudge has the body of someone who loves fruits and vegetables. Vern’s body is more of a meat and cheese kind of shape. I think Vern takes after me, because I like my blueberries with a little sugar on them or with ice cream or even surrounded by a muffin. Unfortunately for Vern, I have to draw the line somewhere, too.
Is there some food or treat that your dog surprisingly will not eat?

Gina, Your two dogs are a hoot :) This made me laugh.
Isn't that why we adore them so much Laurie? My DH and I laugh everyday at these two stinkers!
Yes...my two have brought much joy here, too!
Darwin NOT surprisingly refuses to eat certain green vegetables like cucumber, lettuce, and zuchinni. He is also choosy about when and where he'll accept a strawberry.
Camilla, He likes crepes, doesn't he?? what about green jello?? LOL I think he wants you to toss all those vegetables together and serve it with some cheese and dressing!
He probably does want that! ha ha.
Oh Laurie, so funny. I can picture your doods walking from room to room with a tiny berry held gingerly in their mouths. Heehee what a visual. Zach eats his kibble that way sometimes... picks up a piece and carries it away to eat it in another room. So silly. He's never had a blueberry. Hmm. He doesn't love fruit, but absolutely loves raw carrots and cooked broccoli.
PJ, Vern eats like Zach. I find kibble everywhere when he is done. He takes some to the dining room, some on the kitchen floor....Vern does NOTHING neatly :) Fudge is such a neat little thing and then along comes Vern! My dogs love sweet potatoes. I wonder if they would like cooked broccoli.
Looks like someone was having a "can't sleep" night! Know all about those Laurie and my DH who sleeps through anything and falls asleep within three seconds of hitting the pillow just does not understand!! Men! So far Libby eats most anything we hand her, but that is very limited. Have not introduced her to fruits at all and I am feeling guilty right now:( I love the difference between Fudge and Vern, so cute and sooo fun:)
Lonnie, I really only posted this at 7 am and then fell back asleep. LOL My dogs love their Kibble, so I don't rock the boat much, but they do like sweet potatoes and Fudge likes green beans and now, two blueberries. LOL Thank you! I am sure that little Libby Lu is not deprived in any way :)
Blueberries are so fragile - they need that surrounding muffin to protect them!
Blueberries are one of the few fruits that I've tried to give Halas that he won't eat. I don't know if it's the taste, or the fact that they're so small he can't really get a good feel for them.
Last night, a couple of leaves of baby spinach fell on the floor. Halas snatched one up right away, but then dropped it a few feet away. I left both pieces on the floor, but later found only one, and it was on the sofa. Barley usually takes things to the sofa, so it must have been him, but he apparently decided that he's not a baby spinach guy. I guess Halas eventually ate the other piece, or I'll find it later in some special hiding place.
I agree...muffins protect the berries :) I hope that spinach turns up soon. LOL
