I just recently joined this group and have learned a great deal.  I fed my last dog Eukanuba for 14.5 years and was clueless about the dangers of grain, etc. in dog foods.  I would love to feed my new pup a grain-free food but I see that most have to be ordered online.  Are there any recommended brands available through local pet stores like PetSmart, Petco, etc.?  If not, I guess that I need to start warming the DH up to the idea of mail-order pet food :)

I'm looking at my bottle of Gentle Digest capsules, and I see no chicken. Active ingredients: Bacillus Coagulans, Chicory. (You aren't confusing Chicory with Chicken, hopefully)

Inactive ingredients: Dicalcium Phosphate, Gelatin, Magnesium Stearate, Rice Flour.

No chicken.

Almost every food on our recommended brands list has more protein than the Natural Balance LID foods. If you look at your bag of food, you'll see that it's not really "duck and potato", it's potato and duck. The significance of that is that "potato" is listed first because there's more potato than duck in the food.

I recently switched JD to Wellness Simple Solutions Salmon & Potato formula, which has more protein & more fiber while still being a limited ingredient formula. It's made a huge difference.

However, I feel like we are hijacking Adrienne's post here, lol. Her question is where to buy the better grain-free foods. I think any further questions about soft stool issues can be addressed elsewhere.

Mine are in treat form not a capsule. I'll go and see about getting a capsule and go from there. Thanks for the input. No more hijacking.

@Elizabeth--Great point.  I most definitely would have gotten the bigger bag, LOL!!  Karen, you can hi-jack any time you'd like.  I am getting some great information on soft stools, etc.  I guess it will be trial and error until I find a food that works.  I am so hoping that my pup has a stomach of steel, LOL.

Hope for a puppy that likes lots of foods!

That's my biggest complaint about Oliver. He's so picky that it gets exhausting. The only kibbles he likes are Acana Duck and Bartlett Pear and Orijen Regional Red, he's like a food critic!

He does have an educated palate, lol!
