I don't want to do it, but Lupin is going to need a shorter 'do for the summer.  She gets waaay too much dirt, mulch and plant bits stuck in her puppy fluff.  Anyone have any recommendations for groomers in the Madison, WI area?  After reading so many horror stories involving bad haircuts I'm nervous....

No suggestions......sorry, I live in the wrong area :-) but hear you on the dirt, mulch and plant bits. I am taking Wiggins to the groomer tomorrow for his first "real" haircut armed with lots of photo's :-) Good luck!
Bringing photos is a great idea!!!!

Bridget! How fun! We live in Madison too :) So glad I can help with this! Reggie has had 2 haircuts (he is 8 months), only b/c I felt I absolutely HAD to for hygiene and maintenance purposes. We got the first cut at Tabby and Jacks downtown, which left him looking like a silly poodle - (too short and he had a helmet head), and one at Rufus DuMonde on Willy street, which was great :) We scheduled a meeting before the 2nd cut to make sure everyone was clear about what we wanted, and also brought a picture of what the optimal end result might be, and it all worked out well! Our groomer was Paula :)

Happy grooming!

Thanks so much for the rec! I'm going to look them up!

Thank you thank you thank you!  This scruffy look is exactly what I want.....just a little shorter version of what she's sporting now.  Knowing that he is 2" all over is SO helpful bc the groomer I made an appointment with asked what length I wanted and I didn't know what to request.  Lupie's appointment is on Saturday....wish me luck.

sometimes with a  good shampoo and a professional brush out as a puppy that may be enough to thin the coat out for easier time at home. But please take pictures, make sure they see the pictures and understand them. A meeting to go over the cut a few days before is also a great idea.

I will definitely take pictures and will ask about thinning her coat out instead of cutting it.  Thanks for your advice!

Hi we are in Milwaukee and go to the Feed Bag in Mequon.  We are still working on getting it right.  There is a grooming diagram under blogs on doodle kisses which we are going to take today - it says for australian labradoodle, but the picture looks like our Louie - mini golden doodle.  (just search for "groom" on the blogs page) I will let you know how it works out.  BTW if you are ever this way we could have a doodle date for the pups!
