Congratulations! What an adorable baby...of course I love chocolates!
It went very well. I posted a discussion earlier today with pics. It was almost too perfect so I am gearing up for tonight just in case :) He definitely has MORE ENERGY today but still finds the time to nap on top of the AC vent. I am trying to get more pics but he hates being outside in the sun--I guess with all of the hair. Our Max absolutely LOVED the sun but he had a short coat. Dougie is most definitely a "Hot Box"--he will only play in the shaded areas which is fine with me because this heat is torture.
Thanks guys. He has brought so much playful energy to the house. My son is actually giving his video games a break. What???? Now that is news in my house. We can't get enough of our Dougie!! He is a "nipper" though so I will have to work on that. The potty training and crate training are going well. The breeder had him "litter box" trained and he had also been sleeping in a crate for the last week or so. I have to send her a "Thank You" note for that :)
Get everyone on board with the nipping right from day one! Don't in any way make a tug of war game out of it if he is pulling on your pants legs or anything. Give a sharp NO BITE and then be a tree until he stops. There will be times where he will be so wound up he won't stop. Then it is time for some crate time. AnnaBelle was a little land shark but we have tried to be totally consistent that it is unacceptable and she is getting much much better with it now. There are still moments and then she goes in the crate. Keep a toy or bone handy to stick in her mouth to redirect her as well. Also, keep all petting, rubbing, rewards, etc. at floor level so you aren't encouraging him to jump up (you will thank yourself for this later). Start today playing with his ears and paw pads everytime he is sitting with you. That will get him used to all the grooming stuff down the road.
Great tips, Sheri!
