Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Welcome to puppy madness! I think it would be a great idea to all post a little about yourself and your doodle. Photos are ALWAYS welcome.

Thinks you might want to share:

1) Your Name/Doodle Name

2) Location

3) Doodle type (goldendoodle/labradoodle; mini/standard; F1/F2)

4) Doodle age/weight

5) Photo

6) Anything else

Would also be great to come back here as your doodle ages to respond to your comment and post updates for age/weight/photos etc.

I understand!  I promise you it gets much better over time!  Here is what we are discovering, and this might be helpful-  Because doodles are sooo smart, I think they can act out out of boredom or lack of stimulus.

As soon as we enrolled Whidbey in Puppy 101 classes at Petco, things got MUCH MUCH better!! She now has things to work on, and we as her humans understand a lot more of how she gets motivated.  The biting part is much better because when she would bite I would yell out- OUCH!  When she stopped, I would say.. "GOOD GIRL"!  I am understanding more and more how to motivate her to exhibit wanted behaviors, and also how to stop the bad ones.

Trust me- we still have a ways to go, but overall I am seeing GREAT progress with Whidbey.  She graduates from Puppy 101 classes this weekend, and we are going to enroll her in Puppy 102 classes in the fall.  She is really smart because she knows that treats are attached to the commands!  LOL  Then she gets that "good girl" is also a good thing.

Whidbey is now 4.5 months.  She is 100% potty trained now, and she catches on REALLY fast!  Of course we still work on things but overall, things get a lot better!

Suzanne, Thank you so much.  This was all so very helpful.  I have also been trying to teach Birdie commands and she is doing so well already! I will have to look into the puppy classes here when she is old enough, because it sounds like it would be worth it!  I hadn't thought to tell Birdie good girl when she would stop biting.. I really like that.  I am going to try that too.  Your Whidbey is adorable.  Thanks again for chatting with me.:)

6) Anything else:  Just a little over 3 years ago I said farewell to the Puppy Madness Group because Lucy and Sophie turned two years old.  It was actually a somewhat sad day because it felt like they were no longer puppies.  I enjoyed their puppy years, but looking back and particularly now starting over, I can honestly say I like the stages after puppy better.  I've stopped by occasionally to offer some guidance when I felt I might be able to assist someone.  However, we lost our Sophie in March of this year and so once again I find myself a member of the Puppy Madness Group.  I have to say I had forgotten a lot of this puppy stuff and find myself coming here looking for answers on occasion.

Annabelle is beautiful.  Congrats on your new puppy:)

Annabelle is precious.  Enjoy!

I'm in Nova Scotia and this is my standard F1 goldendoodle, Rasalhague, currently 13 weeks old and 24 lbs.  Looks like he's going to be a big guy! I did lots of reading here and elsewhere before bringing him home and was prepared for all sorts of possible behaviour issues, but it turns out he's a superdog. He was disgusted by the idea of peeing anywhere but on grass from the instant he came home, sleeps through the night in his crate without complaint, has no interest in people food and most other people stuff (he does like to take your shoes so he can stick his head all the way inside them). He's cuddly to boot, a champ at socializing, likes baths and being brushed, learns quickly and is just an awesome little dude. He was sort of a terror with the leash when we started, but things are much better now. He's pretty much too good to be true and I'm sure we're in for some sort of teething horrors in the near future to make up for it :P

Anazalea, what a good boy you have there! And what a cute face too!

He is adorable.  Aren't you lucky!  Yes, he looks like he is going to be a big guy.  What is amazing is our Mackenzie at 10 weeks only weighed 5 lbs.  At 13 weeks I think she weighed 7.4 lbs.  While she came from a large mix of goldendoodles, we think she was the runt.  She is now 5 1/2 months old and probably weighs 26 lbs.

Anyway, congratulations!

Darling little face and sweet as can be! Lucky you!
