Lisa, I know we have had many discussions about the long history of serious issues with Izzy's GI tract, and other health issues, and at this point, I really feel it is important that you make an appointment with a veterinary internal medicine specialist to discuss it and possibly have an endoscopy done, and at least have them run a GI panel. Your regular vet cannot do this. You have tried many, many foods and diets and the issues persist.Given her history, I believe there is a real possiblity that she has an inflammatory GI disease which can be life-threatening if not properly treated. This is not going to resolve with any kind of diet or food alone, it is way more than just a sensitive digestive system. You are fortunate in that the Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove is very close to you, and some of the top specialists in the country practice there. JD has 4 different specialists there. Please make an appointment and do not wait until this reaches a crisis. If left unchecked, the inflammation will cause irreparable damage to her GI lining, making the proper absorption of nutrients impossible. This is truly the best advice I can give you.
Lisa, did you ever see a specialist when this happened before? I agree with what Karen said. You need to get this issue addressed, before something serious happens. Her body may not be absorbing certain nutrients/vitamins that she needs to survive/thrive. Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
When I got Lucy she had giardia. She was put on meds and got rid of the giardia, but the loose stools continued. We tried several different foods to no avail. I then put her on plain chicken and rice and she still had the runs. I decided that chicken was the common element. I removed all chicken from her diet, including treats. Within 2 days her stools were solid. Both of my girls are on Taste of the Wild Lamb, and have not had an issue in a couple years. Good luck finding the source, it can really frustrating.
Izzy also had giardia and has been on many, many meds, probiotics, and many food changes. There is a history of other GI issues as well. At this point, I'm pretty sure the problem is not from any particular food and food is not going to resolve it.
I hear you ladies. Next stop is the specialist. Chicken and Rice is not the answer. Poor petal. On the 'up side' she is now 60 pounds in weight, bouncy and full of fun. If there is something serious wrong then she certainly is not showing signs of it. She certainly gives Harvey a good run for his money. Will keep you posted and thank you for your support. These pooches are so special as all of our doodlebugs are.
thank you..good luck!
