Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Am I crazy ? I just wrote a check for $2k plus Tax plus another $300 to ship my brand new gorgeous australian mini labradoodle. Ughhh. Don't tell my husband or he will kill me. I tried looking locally (w/in a 100 mile driving distance) but to no avail. Seems that mini (20 ish pounds) are hard to find. Once I found a puppy that was ready to go NOW, was the color I wanted (brown w green eyes) I just paid the price asked by the breeder. Didn't try to negotiate because he seemed like such a hard working guy with a farm and kids and doing something he loved. What did you pay?

"PRICELESS"  I love that!!!!

We paid $1800 for ghira. She is an f1b American standard chocolate curly non-shed. We went to same breeder from 11 yrs ago. Luna was$1500 back then. She charges same price far all dogs no matter the size or color. No take and I think her price is fair.

Dogs are like horses and kids - it isn't the initial cost, it's the upkeep!!!

Lily Grace was $2500. She was born in August 2012. My breeder is now charging $3000. You did get a bargain.
We feel lucky that we found our Suzie Q. We live in MD and the breeders here r asking $2,500! They neuter and spay at 8 wks which is mutilation! They do not want the new owner to breed their puppies, therefore, limiting the number of doodles available so they can get these high prices. This is called greed. They r making a livelihood off of breeding when there r 8,000 rescue dogs available within a 500 mi radius of us. We had to get a non shedding dog because of allergies so we chose an ALD. Suzie was the runt of the litter and I promised breeder I wld not say what I paid for her because she said "don't tell anyone u got a deal, ok?". We feed her **** food and she is thriving. Breeder said she weighed 12 lbs and when I brought her home she weighed 7 and acted like she was starved. My husband says she is the funniest dog he has ever seen and in his own words, she gets prettier everyday. he said he thought she was ugly when I brought her home. But I could see her potential as she has a beautiful dark brown coat and hazel eyes and is smart as a whip. Pls open jpg file if u wld like to see her pic.

She is beautiful!  Look at those eyes and lashes!

What is the best kind or brand of harness for my ALD?

I liked the Puppia Soft Harnesses until we needed an Easy Walk Harness to take Chopper anywhere without him pulling and walking on his hind legs. They both come in a variety of sizes and colors. I felt the Puppia harness ran a little small.

We use Easy Walker- the leash attaches under the snout so it cuts down on pulling at the leash and reinforces walking at your side.

Congrats on your new puppy.
Star and Goldie, I just cracked up...as I was driving to the airport this morning to pick up my ALD puppy, that is EXACTLY how I was managing my buyers remorse. Glad you think the same way.

That is a good deal for a well-bred, health tested labradoodle puppy.

Just think of it as about 625 cups of latte.  lol
