Honey is in the most capable and and loving arms of Dr. Beam and his staff in Alvarado, Texas.  I spent some time with her before his staff took her in the back.  They explained she would have her surgery by Friday or Monday at the latest.  She then will begin a grueling and painful, for the first several weeks, 4-8 week rehabilitation.  Dr. Beam's assistant explained that because she is young it will probably be no more than 6 weeks and may be even quicker.  That is good news.

Before I departed his office to start back to Savannah I asked if I could see her again.  They took me back through their incredible facility to their kennels.  She was standing there in her large kennel with her favorite sleeping rug and her toys, but looking forlorn and confused.  I sat with her and held her through the kennel while she licked my ears, also known as Doodle Kisses.  I promised I would come back for her soon.  I then left.  It was not a good.....for me.

After regaining my composure I headed toward Savannah making it to Minden, LA before stopping for the night.  Tomorrow early evening I will make it back home. All-in-all I will log about 2800 miles.  Well worth it to me...and Joyce.

Please keep in mind this was a DRC family effort.  We all participated whether it be making flight arrangements, the vets devoting their time and resources, her fosters, her transportation, those who donated for her surgery or the many who gave morale support to the latter.  As Jacquie commented today, we, DRC, are a family and a family can do awesome things together.

OK...time to get some rest and hit the road again tomorrow.  Thank y'all for everything EVERYONE has done.

Nite.

You two are adventurers for sure. It's great to get updates.
Glad to hear you are most concerned with safety. I hope the rest of the people driving down the highway with you have the same mindset tomorrow. Safe journey!

Thanks for the update. Have a restful night and safe travels tomorrow.

Thank you for another great update!

What a marathon series of journeys!  Try to get plenty of rest along the way.  Honey is such a lucky girl!

Another full day on the road as we travel across I-20 towards Honey. Our landing spot tonight is the Springridge RV Park just off I-20 in Clinton, MS. Trip was without incident again and we're always thankful for that.

Here in the park it is in the low 90s, but with a lot lower humidity than we are accustomed to back in the Georgia Coastal Low Country.  Only 87% vs. the mid-90% back home. Ahhh...a small break.
The park is geared towards mobile homes, but has a sizable RV section. Problem? It is all asphalt and the only area for doggie walking is a ways away across the hot asphalt.  Took some maneuvering to get the boys there across the sparse grassy areas.  We are very conscious of the hot ground on their feet.
Tomorrow is the final leg of our journey to Kilgore, TX.  This is where we will park for a few days while we all get acquainted. Will update again upon arrival. So far, so good.  We are all getting so excited.
PS...sorry for the last double post and today's late update.  Wouldn't ya know it.  The laptop decided to hiccup.  I did all but reload the OS, but finally, got it working.

Wow! You guys are just the BEST!!! Love the heat meter for the asphalt! I sure could use one of those.

Bed, Bath and Beyond.  :)

Thats great! I'll have to get one. I have often wondered about the hot ground on their little paws. I am in Florida where it is always ridiculously hot...unless we have just had a thunderstorm!

The reunion will be very exciting.
Love your updates! Thank you so much for taking us all with you!

Thanks for all your updates and pictures!  What a journey and we are sooo thankful for you and the love you are giving Honey!  Be safe on the road and watch out for those "crazies"!
