Maggie has loose skin and it never occurred to me. She recently went to the groomer and as she was being checked out when I was dropping her off, the groomer mentioned that she hadn't grown into her skin yet. I had no idea what she was talking about since Maggie is my first dog ever. What do I know? And it kinda worried me a bit since Maggie is now 2 and she isn't a real big eater. She is only in the 50 pound range when her parents were closer to 55 and 65.
Glad to see this post. Doodle Kisses scores again.

I wouldn't be worried about Maggie's loose skin. At 2 yrs old I doubt she'll ever 'grow into her skin', but will always have loose skin. Oscar's XL dog suit was always a curiosity to me, and although I thought he might grow into it over time, it's never happened (he's 10 mos. old now). He's just got that gene is my guess, and I'm perfectly okay with it (sure makes it easy to grab him when he's not wearing a collar :-) as well as being extra soft and cuddly).
Thanks everyone for your insight. Its good to know doodles come in all skin types (I honestly didn't know that Labs had loose skin, either). Oscar's loose skin fits his personality really well. He's a laid back, easy going dood... a very casual guy. There's nothing dainty or agile about him. He uses brute strength when wrestling with Lucy (while she is the ultimate maneuverer, jumping and twisting to avoid his bear-hug holds). His baggy suit just seems appropriate somehow :-)
I'd never thought about loose or tight skin! :) Trav is a tight skin guy. Lucy and Oscar have skins that fit their personalities--how cute is that!?
Harley has very loose skin around neck chest, but as it get to his behind he has an old man butt...not much padding. lol
I never thought about it being a loose or tight skin issue, but now that I have Ms. Maggie, Kona's very soft fluffy body and skin that is so shakeable and maliable is likely partly due to loose skin. Maggie is very svelte looking with very athletic and taught hind quarters and tight skin. I assumed it was because she was an abondoned, underweight stray, but maybe it's just her genetics.
