Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Honey is in the most capable and and loving arms of Dr. Beam and his staff in Alvarado, Texas. I spent some time with her before his staff took her in the back. They explained she would have her surgery by Friday or Monday at the latest. She then will begin a grueling and painful, for the first several weeks, 4-8 week rehabilitation. Dr. Beam's assistant explained that because she is young it will probably be no more than 6 weeks and may be even quicker. That is good news.
Before I departed his office to start back to Savannah I asked if I could see her again. They took me back through their incredible facility to their kennels. She was standing there in her large kennel with her favorite sleeping rug and her toys, but looking forlorn and confused. I sat with her and held her through the kennel while she licked my ears, also known as Doodle Kisses. I promised I would come back for her soon. I then left. It was not a good.....for me.
After regaining my composure I headed toward Savannah making it to Minden, LA before stopping for the night. Tomorrow early evening I will make it back home. All-in-all I will log about 2800 miles. Well worth it to me...and Joyce.
Please keep in mind this was a DRC family effort. We all participated whether it be making flight arrangements, the vets devoting their time and resources, her fosters, her transportation, those who donated for her surgery or the many who gave morale support to the latter. As Jacquie commented today, we, DRC, are a family and a family can do awesome things together.
OK...time to get some rest and hit the road again tomorrow. Thank y'all for everything EVERYONE has done.
Nite.

Honey Update!!
It has been a while so I thought I would update everyone on Honey's progress. It is great. She has had a slow go of it, but in a discussion with DR. Beam today she will come off her limited mobility (no running) next Wednesday. That will be 8 weeks from her surgery. Wow! Time has really flown by. She has settled into her new home and is getting along with Guinness and Rosco great. She has become a real watcher for wildlife and she will, probably, run the fence line with Guinness and Rosco when big trucks go by.
Yesterday we left her alone, for the first time, with Guinness and Rosco while we went to the store and ran other errands. We periodically checked our security cameras and everything was quite for the 3 1/2 hours we were gone. Like the boys, she greeted us as if we had been gone a week. Smiles and all.
Her freedom day will be limited for she still has some issues with her right knee. Dr. Beam is not worried about that. Whew! We were. He did say she should not be outside off leash with the boys for at least a week and then no roughhousing for a while after that. It was a very serious operation, but she is still doing leaps and bounds better with her recovery than other dogs have. We will post again next week when her freedom time is granted. Pics and a video. That is if it isn't raining.
Hi there sweet girl. Counting the days until your are free to run like the wind once again! Dane/Joyce -- We anxiously awaited that freedom day for Lucy. After 12 weeks of crate/house confinement, she walked outside, walked off the patio and laid down! We are now just over a year since her surgery and she no longer has a limp, finally ... mostly thanks to playing with AnnaBelle and Honey! Looking forward to next Wednesday.
Thanks for the update! Honey is beautiful I'm glad to hear that she continues to do so well. Looking forward to your next update and seeing her on Freedom Day!!
Sweet! Such good news about how well Honey is doing. It must be a struggle to keep her from roughhousing with the other two. You must be doing wonders for her! Cute that she was just as smiley as the others when you got home. :)
Big Doodle Hugs for all!!
