Has anyone's doodle had to have FHO surgery? My Goldendoodle Dazi is almost 7 months old and has been having trouble. I took her to the vet and the Dr did xrays and she has severe hip dyplasia. She is having FHO surgery on the right hip wednesday. The surgeon says this is the best thing for her instead of a full hip replacement. She is in a lot of pain and I hope this is going to help her. She will have the left side done after she has healed up from the right side. I sick with worry and wondering if anyone else has gone through this and how is the recovery for them. I hate this for my baby. I cant stand to see her in pain.

Charlotte is toooo cute. I love that. I will definitely look into that for Dazi. Im sure even after her staples are out monday, she still shouldnt be licking her wound and that would help and be adorable on her. :)

Jennifer this is just so hard and im so sorry that you are both going through this. The thought of her laying there crying breaks my heart. I'm happy to hear she is better today. I think I would ask for more or stronger pain meds next time. I'm sure the vet gave you the proper dose for her weight, but let him/her know how uncomfortable she was, if you haven't already. She is so lucky to have you. Love to know what you wrote in that letter to the breeder.

Hi Sue, I am going to tell her Dr on monday when we go get her staples out how bad it was that first night at home. They kept her the first night after her surgery and she was on a morphine drip and then she gets sent home with the pain pill. It was heartbreaking to hear her cry constantly that whole night and day. I will definitely let him know so when we have to do the other side soon , they can give her a little more of something to ease her pain. I am in progress of writing that letter to the breeder. My best friend is helping me write it. I want it to be perfect when I send it to her. I will let you know what I said when I get it finished. I work on it inbetween when Dazi is sleeping or resting. Otherwise she has my full attention. :)

Jennifer, glad to hear Dazi is a little better and I'm sorry she has been in so much pain.  I can't imagine seeing and listening to her cry all night.  That just breaks my heart.  Hugs to you with prayers!

Hi Everyone, just wanted to give an update on my Dazi Doo. She got her staples out this past monday and is out of that dreaded cone. We are now walking longer walks and doing stairs 3 times a day to strengthen that leg and hip. She goes back on Sept 10th and her Dr will decide when we are going to schedule the surgery for her right hip. Thank you for all your continued support and prayers. I cant wait till she is running around and pain free.

Good to hear this good progress.

HI Everyone!   I wanted to give an update on Dazi.  She had her FHO surgery on her right hip Sept 30th,  she went back to the Dr today and got her staples out and is off restriction and no more cone.  She is a happy girl.     This surgery went so much better than the first one on her left hip.   The Dr said that was because she didnt have a bad leg that she was using this time to push up and walk on.   We start rehab on her legs now to build up her muscles and get her legs strong and soon my baby is going to be able to run and play and be pain free.  When we left the Dr's office today, he told Dazi to go be a puppy now like she has been trying to be but couldnt because of the terrible pain she was in.       I am so happy the worst is now over and we are looking forward to having a pain free puppy.    Thank you everyone for all your support you gave me and Dazi through all of this.   Its a very hard thing to go through when your baby is hurting so bad and there is nothing you can do.     I would take it all from her if I could.

Jennifer,

It is so nice you came back to let us know how she is doing. I often thought of how you were both doing.

You are a brave woman and you did a great thing for your dog.

Give Dazi a kiss from me.

Thanks Jennifer,

I will be sure to give Dazi a kiss from you.  She loves kisses. :)

This is nice to hear and thank you for taking the time to update us. Did you ever get that letter to. The breeder drafted? I wonder how many of Dazi's siblings are dealing with the same issue. Let's hope their owners are as kind and able to help as you have been. Good luck with rehab.

I have the letter written and my best friend is looking over it for me and adding anything she thinks I might have missed.  I want the letter perfect when I mail it to the breeder.     It will be mailed very soon.   I cant let this go by without saying something.    It was heartbreaking to watch my baby go through what she has been through and only 8 months old now.

I'm happy to read that the surgery went well and that Dazi is cleared for rehab.  I can't imagine what a relief it must be for you!
