It may not be cries of pain. I had a dog who whimpered when she played with a certain toy; it had nothing to do with pain, it was just a quirky thing she did with that toy. If his teeth are fine and he doesn't cry when he eats other hard objects, I would just ignore it.
Could it be because he gets over excited to have the treat? How did his dental check go? Hope all is well
My Mom's lab does this when I go over. If I give her a treat, any kind of treat she walks around with it whining. She will finally calm down and eat it, but there is lots of whining. Lucy had a particular toy that she did this with but she would be looking for a place to hide it. She would normally end up finding Sophie's special toy and laying hers right with Sophie's. If not then she would take it and lay it with Sophie. I think she thought Sophie would protect her toy for her. Unfortunately, that toy has now been put up for save keeping because she doesn't want AnnaBelle anywhere near that toy. It causes fights. I think you guy is just excited, although he may sound sad.
Yer, that's what my dog did with the one toy, walked around with it whining and looking for a place to hide it. Seems it's not uncommon.
Well you learn something new every day!
does he have a Kong? The black ones are the most durable. you can put in some cream cheese or peanut butter.

My dog loves these and they stand up to chewing. We have had the same ones for a year and a half and they are still fine after lots of chewing!! Bailey likes the "Bumi" and the "Tizzi". They are guaranteed too! Good company!
Yes, those are great. We have had the Zisk and Bummi for over a year and not a single tooth mark on them.
