Hello Fellow Doodle Owners,

My 8 month old Goldendoodle cries when we give him certain treats. Today it was an Omega 3 bone, could be a bully sticks, ,softly a chew bone. It's disturbing we hate to hear him cry. Thank in advance for your insight.

I would think cracked tooth .......that is one of the things they told us in the dog dental seminar we went to....that can cause infection and all kinds of trouble if it is that..have you examined the mouth and teeth?
I am a Registered Dental Assistant & I never noticed anything with his teeth. I will do a once over right now though. But he chews rocks, shells, rips his toys & never cries with those. It's the bones he whimpers with. Thank you for your reply.....checking now......

It may not be cries of pain. I had a dog who whimpered when she played with a certain toy; it had nothing to do with pain, it was just a quirky thing she did with that toy. If his teeth are fine and he doesn't cry when he eats other hard objects, I would just ignore it.

Could it be because he gets over excited to have the treat?  How did his dental check go?  Hope all is well

Our doodle will do this too sometimes. It happens if she is looking to bury the treat or if the treat is too big and she can't break it. In that case she will bring it back to me and throw it at my feet.

My Mom's lab does this when I go over.  If I give her a treat, any kind of treat she walks around with it whining.  She will finally calm down and eat it, but there is lots of whining.  Lucy had a particular toy that she did this with but she would be looking for a place to hide it.  She would normally end up finding Sophie's special toy and laying hers right with Sophie's.  If not then she would take it and lay it with Sophie.  I think she thought Sophie would protect her toy for her.  Unfortunately, that toy has now been put up for save keeping because she doesn't want AnnaBelle anywhere near that toy.  It causes fights.  I think you guy is just excited, although he may sound sad.

Yer, that's what my dog did with the one toy, walked around with it whining and looking for a place to hide it. Seems it's not uncommon.

Well you learn something new every day!

Dental check went well......all teeth fine. He cries with bully sticks, rawhide chews & yesterday with this bone we bought at the Doodle Romp. Mickey rips up all his other toys even the ballistic ones with in 10 minutes. I just need something for him to chew but the crying makes us sad. Any suggestion on a good dog toy that is industructible? Thank you for all these great insights!

does he have a Kong?  The black ones are the most durable.  you can put in some cream cheese or peanut butter.

My dog loves these and they stand up to chewing.  We have had the same ones for a year and a half and they are still fine after lots of chewing!!  Bailey likes the "Bumi" and the "Tizzi".  They are guaranteed too!  Good company!

Yes, those are great. We have had the Zisk and Bummi for over a year and not a single tooth mark on them.
