Hello Fellow Doodle Owners,

My 8 month old Goldendoodle cries when we give him certain treats. Today it was an Omega 3 bone, could be a bully sticks, ,softly a chew bone. It's disturbing we hate to hear him cry. Thank in advance for your insight.

What do you do with a week-old bagel?  I know that sounds funny, but that was what our old shephard used to do also.  I would give her our old rock-hard bagels and she would be delighted, but wander all over the backyard crying and asking "What do you do with a week-old bagel?" before she buried it somewhere.  My ALD also talks to us all the time.  He has favorite toys that he carries around, but tears up others that he can sink his teeth into.  If something has a squeeker, he will usually tear it up to get the squeeker out.  But his favorite toy (a stuffed lamb) has a baa-baa sound that he loves.  He has had this lamb for years and I even throw it is in washing machine and the sound still works.  About bully sticks.  My dogs love them and I get the long ones (12 inches) and they get 20-min. sessions for chewing.  Each stick is good for about an hour (3 sessions) and I give them the sticks at the back door and they take them out to their outdoor beds for a chew.  I put the timer on the range and when it goes off tell them to bring them to me.  They are usually tired of the sticks at that time and bring them back so I can put them in a zip-lock bag and put them away until the next day.  They know the routine now and have no problem about bringing the sticks back to me.

So, I would suggest that if there is nothing wrong with his teeth, he is probably just trying to talk to you and thanking you for his treat.  Labradoodles are great talkers - both of mine talked to me all the time, but our goldendoodle never says a word.  Dogs all have their own personalities.  I would suggest you have a talker.

Hey Kristi, try a Chuck It ball, especially the one with the hole on each side. Our Doodle Bella hasn't started playing with balls yet but her Australian Shepard big sister has jaws of steel and rips through everything we have tried until we found them. The hole allows her to to kinda chew it so it gives her hours of exercise without leaving a mark on it.

One of my dogs does this too.  He walks around whining for awhile and eventually settles down to chew.  I often have to separate him from the other dogs for him to feel relaxed enough to actually enjoy his treat.

I agree that he's probably just vocalizing excitement over the chew toy.  If there was something actually causing pain I think he's cry when he chewed other hard things....not just the bone.
