Update on Jake :( very sad!

Ok please be forwared if you are very tender hearted you might not want to read ahead.
i stiill have yet to meet jake but have been talking with his current owner. He says Jake is sweet, playful and loves people and dogs. But he has an obsession with drinking water excessively. I asked about diabetes, renal kidney issues, etc. and his owner says tests were done showing clean results.

Now, I would probably want new tests but the owner also said that his vet thinks its psychogenic water consumption probably brought on by the fact that he is being left in his crate for so long. The owner admitted that he has left jake regularly in his crate up to 20 hrs because he is on the road for his job (omg!) and this sounds like it happens multiple times a week. The owner says he at times restricts jakes water so he can hold it that long in the crate. He's a 6 month old puppy! So when he gets out of his crate he drinks until he throws up. :(

I can't begin to tell you my emotions on this but I feel even stronger about saving this boy. I don't have the owners address but I will be meeting up with him tomorrow. At this point, I am taking Jake.

Please don't bash me as I am trying to get to this dog ASAP. I have no idea whether he has medical issues causing the water intake but from the sounds of it, this doodle has a right to feel like it needs to gulp all the water and food it can, when it can. I am so sad and mad right now.

Any advice would be appreciated but please again, don't bash me. I honestly don't think going in guns blazing is going to help get this dog out of there. And I know what a terrible situation.

Why would you be bashed? You are rescuing a dog who is in a very sad situation. I am happy to hear that he will be taken care of properly now.

This may not be the dog for you, but it is a dog that needs to be rescued. You are an angel whether you keep Jake as your own or foster him until a good home is found for him. You have everyone's support here. Please keep us updated. You are so brave to remain calm and try your best to save Jake.

Ok guys, one more thing. The guy said he doesn't shed but from pics I do see some small black hair dust bunnies around. His coat doesn't look too great. My husband does not like shedding dogs but agrees we need to help him. Any suggestions on how to evaluate this coat and start working it? Doodle probably isn't use to regular brushing (I do Brisby almost daily). Could the dust bunnies be from matting? He has a somewhat curlie coat from what I see in the pictures but it looks whispier than Brisby's. just trying to get my plan in place ahead of time.

If he's leaving his dog in a crate for that long I doubt he's cleaning his floors. We have dark floors and see bender fur bunnies in corners once in a while. He has whispy fur where Zoe has fur more like Brisby (I think) because she's a multi. I just take a hand vacuum and it takes seconds to get the Ben-fur balls. I have severe allergies and I'm fine with him... His fur is just different.

Does bender shed a lot or just little tuffs?

He doesn't shed a lot at all and I don't notice it until I see those little dust bunny like fur in corners at the end of the week. I only clean my floors once a week. When I pet him I don't see fur falling out or anything .. But he is more poodle than lab

Considering Jake's circumstances his coat is probably not in optimal condition.  It may take a few weeks of good care.

Jace sheds very minimal and I wouldn't even call it shedding, it happens 3-4 times a year and clumps fall out, big enough to pick off the floor :P, my husband was very adamant about a no shedding dog,
He has never complained about jaces "shedding" once! Also, it could be tied to anxiety and may clear up when he gets settled I know that dogs who are anxious will obsessively bite or scratch themselves to the point their fur falls out. I also just wanna say you're an angel for saving this sweet fur baby, my heart broke hearing about how he's treated. Thank you!!!
