The article I have a link to on cnn.com states that the chemicals in the Glade Plug-ins and a few other household cleaners can cause health problems in dogs. I've also heard that Frabreeze can cause health problems as well.

Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

Here is another informative link: (thank you F, Calla & Luca for providing it)

Added note:

I have had pet birds for 20 years and I'm always very conscious of any airborne type cleaners, fragences, etc. as this potential hazards can kill them. Even overheating teflon coated pans can kill a bird and I've had a friend who lost her bird to this mistake. I remember hearing stories a few years ago when Febreeze came out on the market that it was causing health issues in dogs and cats whose owners would spray their animal beds and couches with the fabric freshener.

Here is a link to a news report on ABC about if these kinds of reports are true or not.

I, personally, still try to be more cautious regardless of what is being reported.

I don't know about this but, I do know that a friend, who owns a vehicle storage yard, lost several trained rottweiler security dogs to cancer.  After the third death, he had a necropsy done at the University Of California, Irvine Vet School.

The results of the necropsy showed that the dog had extremely high levels of the chemicals contained in Round Up Weed Killer.  The storage yard was gravel covered and whenever a weed would pop through the gravel, he would spray the weed with Round Up. The dogs obviously must have ingested the weeds along with the poison from the Round Up.

Yes, the herbicide 2,4-D has been known to cause cancer in dogs, and there is a ton of research supporting that. The dogs do not have to ingest it to be affected.

2, 4 D is not in Round Up though. It's in Weed B Gon and those broad leafed weed killers. Round Up has the advantage of dissipating  fairly quickly but certainly it should not be ingested.

Apparently the bad stuff in Round Up is glyphosate: http://articles.washingtonpost.com/2013-04-29/national/38895115_1_g...

Yes and that article is scary. I am glad we have all but eliminated all spraying of herbicides and pesticides. Monsanto is like the evil empire.

Amen to this!

Can you believe this Monsanto ad from 1947?

OMG! This puts Dupont's "Better Living Through Chemistry" to shame!  LOL

It really does! A lot of people were duped with that one!

No eagles were though.

I'm so glad we didn't lose them.

Me too. We came close though.

HA HA HA HA!!! I am saving this and showing it to my class!
