Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hey everyone,
I am looking for an Irish doodle(1/2 Irish Setter, 1/2 Poodle). I've done a ton of research about doodles and both parent breeds. Im an avid runner and biker, hence I want a very active dog. I'm having a hard time finding a breeder. Does anyone know of a reputable breeder in the US?
Thanks

There are several Irish doodle owners on this site. Type in Irish Doodle in the space in the upper right hand corner of the main page. It says Search DoodleKisses.com. You will find the Irish doodles there and discussions about them. Good luck. I grew up with an Irish Setter and think the Irish Doodles are just beautiful.
Sounds like a good mix, but you might also like to take a look as the Aussiedoodles. Very active dogs and would definitely be a good companion for you with your running and biking. BTW, have you tried the BTL (bike tow leash). We have them and they just give you a little more control with your dogs while biking. BIggest challenge is finding the perfect trails. You don't want your dog running on paved roads, gravel, or concrete. Take a look at the photos on my page. You can see the BTLs there.
Jennifer - there is a wonderful Irish Doodle up for adoption through Doodle Rescue Collective. His name is Bernie and he needs a forever home! I don't know if you have your heart set on a puppy, but you should take a look at him on the website. He is a very active and athletic dog, and so handsome! I would take him in a second if I had the right kind of setup. Anyway, it's worth a look. Good luck!
I don't have my heart set on a puppy, just a female. Theres two males dogs that visit all the time. Both are dominant(they never visit at the same time), I would rather play it safe and get a female to avoid conflict.
We have an Irish Goldendoodle. She 1/4 irish setter, 1/4 golden and 1/2 poodle. I can tell you that she is a VERY active dog - much more than we bargained for. I guess I'm saying, be careful what you wish for! LOL! She is also an independent dog which I understand is a characteristic of Irish Setters. She is a year now and excels at agility. I think she would do well with a busy schedule.
The breeder is in Indiana so it might be a long way for you to go for a doodle.
Thanks so much. I'll look into this breeder. I'm willing to travel for the right dog at the right time. Honestly, I'm looking for something comparable in energy to my last girl. She had a habit of barking in your face, if her nudging and kisses didn't work, at 6AM to go on a run. Most would find this completely unacceptable and obnoxious. I saw it as my workout buddy holding me accountable. lol. If your girl is old enough, teach her to pull on a harness. Get her to pull you on a bike around the block once or twice with a specialized pulling harness. Worked like a charm for my last girl.
Deb, you can't post a link to a breeder's website here in a forum discussion. :)
My apologies. I actually joined doodlekisses to participate in a discussion regarding this breeder so I didn't realize it was against the rules.
Jennifer, my only complaint about our breeder was that they really do not do temperament testing. You get what you get. We wanted a sweet, gentle little girl because we have two older male doodles. Well, she was a hellion from day one and is definitely the boss around here now.
I don't want to sound like I don't love her to death. She is our baby! She is just not the dog we were expecting and a lot more work than any other dog that we've had.
Just putting this out there to you...there is a gorgeous looking doodle mix on the doodle rescue at bottom of main page of DK. They mention he might have a setter/doodle mix in him. He's really high energy but what a nice looking dog. Gorgeous coloring!
