Hard listening to Vet vs what I read here

Today Derby doodle started out with a loose stool in the a.m.
Then it managed to become loose stool with bright red blood
Her vet is only a few minutes away...so I ran her over there....he took X-rays, put her on ONE pill of DRONTAL if there was a parasite present. Being proactive, I guess...since fecal sample would take a few days..and 1pill twice a day of Metronidazole for 2 wks
and a probiotic...that I refused to take...I use Proviable DC b/c that's what Karen advised....
He was fine with that...he also put her on 4 cans of Hills Prescription diet I/d canned food....then I am Reading about Bailey on Chix & rice...which seems more wholesome & healthier
Are we on the right track...?? The radiology report came back clean

Glad to hear the Chix and sweet pot. is working. Usually does. Its my go-to food everytime my doodles have an upset tummy or loose stools. Im glad you know this Vet so well and that you are now able to have a thoughtful converstaion with him to educate him in the more healthy, albiet, less profitable ways of helping our dogs. Joanns assessment is absolutely correct and it is the same in human medicine. MDs see a tremendous amount of neglect and non compliance and not only sincerely want to protect these patients from more harm, but want to protect themselves from possible legal actions.
Being an educated and caring dog owner does give you the advantages of being able to discuss your opinions with an educated and caring Vet. He will most likely appreciate the intelligent discussion.

Glad to hear that Derby is better.  Chicken and sweet potato was also my fix for Dougie's loose stool.  What would we do without Karen and the rest of our DK family?  Dougie would probably be eating Eukanuba--I at one time thought that this was the best dog food ever... :)

I remember those days...wow we have come a long way..I remember my childhood pet was a Kenel ration dog...17 yrs!! And my mom gagged several times a week from the smell when she opened the can
I wonder how that would measure up now!!

Back in those days, there was no free-trade agreement, so while the canned dog food was gross and disgusting, at least it wasn't full of plastic from China. I don't think there were as many chemical preserbvatives back then either. The Kennel Ration probably contained better ingredients than the garbage that's in the pet aisle at Walmart now.

Thanks everyone DerbyDoodle seems so much better...still on chix & rice now. Stopped the Rx & the sweet pot. I was afraid of constipating her..she is having a tiny stool a day....lots of boiled chix tho...reminds me of kids when tonsils come out & they get all the Popsicles & shakes...wonder what the dog thinks about this royal cuisine
