Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We had the bad news over Thanksgiving that Groucho Too has cancer of the liver.  He had a cancerous cyst on his spleen that burst so they did a spleenectomy and had the spleen biopsied.  It was cancer.  They also saw nodes on his liver during the surgery.  So....what to do?  He has the stitches out tomorrow, so we have decided to tell the vet we want plenty of pain medication for him when he starts to be bad and we have decided to have him put down at home.  There is a traveling vet who will come to the home to do this.  There is also a pet crematorium in our little town who pick up corpses and take them for cremation.  We will have him put down at home, cremated, and the ashes buried at home.  We have even picked the area for his final resting spot.  We are ready to lay our beautiful goldendoodle to rest.

Tears are streaming down my face as I read this Lynda...my heart is aching for you and I feel the same hurt I personally felt 10 months ago with our beloved golden retriever.  It is such a difficult time.  My thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you and your family.  Sending hugs your way.  So very, very sorry!

I am so sorry to hear this.

Lynda ~ my thoughts and prayers are with you!  It is such a difficult time, but I hope Groucho Too surprise you with many more days than you expect - each and every day is a blessing.  I admire you and your husband for making these thoughtful plans for Groucho. Hugs to you all.

I'm so sorry Lynda... it sounds like you have a good plan and you are thinking what is best for Groucho.   Embrace the remaining time you have with him and he will always be in your heart !!!  {{{{{{ hugs }}}}}}}

So sorry to hear this, it's always so heart breaking to lose one of our four foots.  I had to put my Westie, JB down to cancer a few years back and we also had him cremated.  JB's ashes are in the little wood box along with his photo, makes me smile to look at his photo and remember all of fun times we had and thankful that he was my dog for 11 years.

Lynda, there is nothing I can say to ease your pain at this time and my heart goes out to you and your family. I had the vet come to my home for my last two dogs and I know it was better for them. I will have you in my thoughts.

Lynda, I'm so sorry you are going through this. Your plan for Grouch Too is exactly what we did with our last dog and cat. They passed at home in a place where they felt safe and comfortable. We felt it was the best we could do for them. And then they were cremated. As difficult as it was I think planning ahead made it "easier" for them and us.  Hugs from Ricki & TaraBear.

Sending hugs... so sorry you are having to go through this, but it sounds like you have a great plan in place to make Groucho Too as comfortable as possible.

Oh Lynda, I am sending you positive vibes and prayers as you prepare for Groucho's last days.  I think it's wonderful that you can say your goodbyes at home surrounded by love and peace.  May your memories fill your heart with his love.

I am so sorry. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

So very sad.  I'm so sorry.  I've only been through this once, with Cass our border collie.  She was a senior and could barely stand and walk anymore...still didn't make it easy.

Just to let everyone know, Groucho Too is doing wonderfully.  He has been running all over the yard playing with Harpo, jumped up onto the wall, and down from the wall today, into and out of the car yesterday, has been eating like there is no end in sight, and just basically enjoying life.  It is hard for me to imagine that this will all end and probably soon.  He and Harpo were enjoying bully sticks on their beds in the back yard and Groucho Too finished a whole 12 inch stick in 20 minutes today.
