And then you have JD, the worst of both worlds: Sheds like crazy and brings leaves, grass, dirt, etc. into the house, so I'm vacuuming up all of it.
Definitely not the right dog for an allergy sufferer; fortunately, I don't have allergies. :)
Oh, I know what you mean! Preston is like Velcro. All the leaves and twigs stick to him. And if it isn't the leaves then he runs through the mud puddles and brings that in. Before I had him my house was always clean. Now there's footprints and dirt all over the floors and rugs. Always running the vacuum. But I wouldn't have it any other way now. Can't get the pic turned right side up!
I can relate. I have severe allergies and from time to time have a mild reaction to my ALD who doesn't shed. Of course, the reaction is mild and tolerable...just itchy eyes. With other dogs I am prone to a full blown asthma attack. And when Apollo gets outdoor allergens in his coat it makes it even worse. I keep his coat cut pretty short now and it helps. I have a friend w/ a purebred schnauzer and she's had a similar experience. I just don't think a "hypoallergenic" dog exists and I wish people would stop using the term. I digress.
Can you imagine if you took these dogs hunting? I can't even think what our doodles would bring back in their coats!
We take Racey hunting. We just keep her hair cut short and a lot of times she has a thin coat on.
=)
They definitely bring in lots of the outdoors inside with them from their adventures!
We always call Meg our Teflon dog and Polly our Velcro one. Polly is pretty much like a cotton ball you roll across anything and can't shake it off. Brushing helps with the top layer but the dirt just doesn't seem to brush out...groomer thinks we roll her in mud before she goes in for a bath.
