Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Sorry to clog up the forum, but I am freaking out!

I can't keep her from jumping on and off of things. I am off work until January 6th so I am home with her all day, but she has been jumping on and off the couch several times a day. I covered the couch in pillows like the vet suggested, but she still gets up there. I try to watch when she is ready to jump on or off of the bed, but sometimes I'm not quick enough. I don't have a pen I can keep her in and she would freak out if I left her in the kennel all day (which also seems cruel when I'm home).

The second thing is the fear of infection. She licks sometimes and I tell her to stop. I put the cone on her and she stumbles around the house falling over because she can't take a step without catching it on something. After two minutes she figured how to use her paws to get it off. If it were to get infected I would take her to the vet to get it treated and then my PetPlan insurance would be worthless. I just signed up a couple days ago so if she got an infection now, everything from now on would be a "preexisting condition." I just want this next week and a half to be over!

Awwwwww....she looks so much like Enzo, it's scary! Hope she doing better!

I have noticed that too! She is feeling SO much better! I would say beside the healing incision she is probably feeling 100%

LOL. Just showed her pic to my DH, and he asked when I took that pic! He was amazed it wasn't Enzo!
So glad to hear she is on the mend and feeling better. Watching them feeling uncomfortable and in pain sucks big time! Gentle ((HUGS))
How old is Crush?

I understand the feeling.  My Molly got diagnosed with Addison's Disease two weeks ago and until meds are stabilized...she goes out every 30 minutes or more and has incontinence.  Worst time ever.  I FEEL YOUR PAIN!!!    Happy New Year.

I'm very sorry to hear that. I hope Molly starts feeling better soon, and that you can get some peace.

Several days after a spay infection is unlikely from licking alone but still you do need to keep her with you. Tethering was what I was going to suggest too.
I had to block Shelby from the furniture once. I put laundry baskets on the couch!

Straight chairs work well keeping dogs off furniture.  Lay them down on their sides with seat facing back of the piece of furniture.  Or, with the front of the back and front edge of the seat on the couch or what ever.  It has worked well for me.

What kind of cone do you have? We purchased a smaller, yet very effective and much more comfortable cone for Enzo. It's padded and she could even use it as a pillow. Petco carries them. So much better than the huge plastic noisey ones the Vet issues.
We had one hell of a time keeping Enzo" calm". Vet ended up giving us a sedative for her.
Bella was as you describe, jumping on and off things by day three. Once she felt better there was no holding her back. I didn;t get too anxious about it and figured if she felt uncomfortable doing it she'd stop, and did my best to keep her from leaping, which she does like a gazelle. I mostly blocked off the couch and ottoman and she only jumped on the bed to go to sleep at night and I taught her to only jump off onto her own bed right near the side of mine, so there was less impact.
She got some fluid build up under her incision during her first week and I iced it in the evening. Was it from jumping? I will never know, but was easily treated. I really was more concerned with infection and kept the area really clean, esp after she went potty. She never licked the area at all, so no issues there, but I would have covered it if she had. As for the jumping, do the best you can, tethering her will help, close doors to the rooms she jumps on furniture, and you will get through it.
Good luck with it all. It will be over before you know it.
